Root LG Tribute Stock ZV5 Deodexed & Unmodified [4.4.2]

Dont believe so. My original plan was through virgin mobile and i have unlimited text, data, and was upgraded to unlimited minutes. I started using virgin mobile prior to data done right but i dont know if i was transfered
If the phone was a Data Done Right (DDR), then I don't believe this ROM is compatible. I am not aware of any DDR Tribute ROMs.
Hopefully someone can chime that can help if thats the case.

Dang. Well, last ditch effort, can you tell me what id have to look for in the nandroid, or, would it help to know that i bought it directly from virgin mobiles website, and use the 35 dollar unlimited plan? im desperate here. I definatly dont want to flash cyanogen again, i cant stand the constant texting failures and such

after some random guess work i managed to get the stock lg tribute os back, but i left the phone alone for aprox. 10 minutes, came back and it was in twrp, i had left the phone on. I tried rebooting, goes to twrp. i checked the Mount tab, and it didnt have the system partition mounted. i mounted it, and rebooted again, twrp loads again. Can anyone tell me what to do from here?

edit: okay, i forgot something (bad memory and i was away from it for a bit) i had triggered the system update for my phone. (i used the stock rom so i figured i didnt have a problem.) did i do a bad, and what can i do to fix it

edit2: i fixed my own problem after more guesswork, but i figured it out, and decided to leave this for psterity.
What i had to do, is even though my nandroid was an unworking one, i figured out which part of it fails every time (it was my system) so i restored everything but my system, wiped it (the normal factory reset) then i flashed the file from OP (non deodex), wiped the cache/dalvik, and reboot. working phone again, and not updating it again

hopefully all of my floundering helps someone else

edit to the edit to the edit (edit 3) and hopefully my final edit, I did not fix my problem after all. ive succesfully flashed back to the file provided by OP, but my system still doesnt stay mounted.

hey superR, i tested your stock unmodified Zv5 rom. it works fine as well as the deodexed one.
if anybody could clear this up for me that would be great. after going crazy with installing all my apps apon flashing either of these roms. ive started noticing a space issue. my internal storage is telling me that /system data is now 2.5 gbs. this is rediculous... i cant seem to delete any of it. no matter how many times i factory reset or re-flash either of your roms. please help.

Did you perform clean flash (factory reset prior) or dirty flash(install on top of current rom) ?
Recommend clean flash.

Other item to perform. After you flash wipe both dalvik and cache using TWRP recovery.

Hope these suggestions help.

So what's the official status on wifi tethering right now? You have to get a third-party app?

Thanks!

BTW: Loving this ROM, it's so much better than the Virgin stock phone.

No. WiFi tethering is available on all the Tribute roms. As far as I've tried, third party apps don't work, or are hard to implement. Most apps for tethering require root access.

The only way to tether effectively is to use the WiFi Direct setting. Go to settings, WiFi, hit 3 dots on upper right corner, WiFi Direct. To activate it, you'll have to order some service from VM:

  • Daily Hotspot: $3/day | 500MB
  • Monthly Hotspot: $5/month | 1GB - OR - $10/month | 2GB
*Select devices & plans only.

I know some folks on here have figured out how to get around paying for it. Personally it's a hassle, and I don't want to be booted off the network for trying to use more data than my monthly limit. So there you have it. Your choice. I don't tether often, I usually get enough WiFi outside of home, and the price seems reasonable, so I'm OK with not hassling myself. :)

Hey forum mates...came to say goodbye!
I found myself facing another repair on my Tribute. The mic is broken/separated from the motherboard. Not going try fixing it myself. I'm a 53 year old grandma who's hand eye coordination isn't up to the task! I have two Tributes..one working, except for the mic, and one that's a brick, and already contributed it's mic to the former. The working one runs this rom, the other..nothingness! I would be willing to donate them to a dev for the sake of rom development. I have a brand new HTC Desire626s that I hope to root soon!
I'll miss you all, and your brilliant feedback! Thanks for teaching an old end-user that she can always learn something new!
God bless!

Aww... my Tribute still works well. Still running this ROM, though there's a new one called Monstro. That post should be moved to the Rooted tab. Might try that Monstro later. My Tribute is the first phone that's lasted more than a year in a while! Before that, I had:

-the Optimus V (still works relatively well despite its age, nearly 4 years. Currently runs MRG666's Gingerbread CM mod ROM.)
-the Kyocera Rise (stupidly bricked that one, but could've lasted a while in my view... loved the physical QWERTY slider)
-The Kyocera Event (works somewhat, perhaps removing too many of the included apps gradually made it worse)
-LG Optimus F3 (only had that one for 7-8 months... overheated badly around the 7th month, which impaired internal memory... had it recycled once the Tribute was up for sale in October, 2014)

I have about $200 of gift money from Christmas. I am sort of thinking of getting a new phone. From what I can tell, the htc desire 626, LG Tribute 2, LG G Stylo, and Motorola Moto G 3rd gen are due to get Marshmallow upgrades in the next few months. Still haven't made my mind up... might go for the 626 or the G Stylo if I can hold off a bit longer, and get them on sale. The Tribute 2 is okay, but there have been too many reports of its camera being worse than the Tribute's. Apparently the problem is that the rear facing camera lacks autofocus. That's a major deal killer for me. If I do get a 626, G Stylo, or Moto G 3rd gen, I will toss the Event away to a recycler. My old Optimus V is more useful than that piece.

The 626s has root if you use kingroot but no recovery yet. At least not one that's stable. As with any HTC, it's full of bloat..
HTC junk. Hoping a dev will come up with a port that gives us a way to de-junk this thing! Display us crisp, forward facing speakers are awesome! Camera /camcorder is also good! A good buy if..
we can get Super-Duper root & TWRP recovery!

BTW...my old F3 belongs to my hubby. Still working perfectly with AS8v22 rom!
Well done to everyone that contributed to that rom! Running 2 1/2 years no problems with stability! Longevity is the proof of a great rom!

Hey daffyducknj...the VM HTC Desire 626s has root & recovery...over @ xda dev. Just a tip...once you achieve root with SuperSU & TWRP recovery, your phone will want to install updates from Google Play. Don't install the HTC Service Pack. You'll loose twrp recovery access, and screws up the GAPPS package. It makes it want to revert to stock, uprooted status.
Nandroids backups really are our best friends!

Thanks, but I decided to go with the LG G Stylo. Has a faster processor (not by much but from the demos I've seen it still matters), and better 3D graphics performance over the 626.

There is root if the phone isn't upgraded to Marshmallow. No recovery yet, but many of its siblings in LG land do have twrp so it's a matter of time and dev interest. And the 5.7 inch screen... very nice for $130! The stylus is a nice touch for writing notes and art apps (sketching, coloring etc). Bought it yesterday from a Best Buy store in NYC. Haven't activated it yet on VM, or rooted it, as I'm waiting for a super fast micro SD card to arrive, along with a screen protector pack and clear outer case. I can at least back it up with Titanium. Not the first time I've dealt with out custom recovery before, but I'm sure that will come sooner than later! There's a very active forum for the G Stylo here, and enough interest over at xda developers. :)

Does anyone know who build the Monstro Rom? I have modified to almost stock and still have 1.22 GB storage.
