That is a generic OS error message indicating that an app has encountered a problem and force-closed (shut down) as a precaution.

The first thing to try is going to Settings/Apps, locate the problem app. and use the Clear Cache option. Reboot the device and see if that solves the problem.

If not, repeat the process but this time Clear Data too. This will require you to re-sign/re-login (if necessary) and will remove any app-specific user data.

Failing that, your next option is to uninstall the problem app. reboot the device, then reinstall.

If the issue persists then the best advice is to perform a "repair installation" using the latest Sony firmware via PC Companion.

You are talking about nothing when you refuse to identify the program that fails. If this is illegal software, take your problem elsewhere.

Wow, way to make friends and influence people...

How about you try cutting new members a bit of slack and offer advice instead of insulting them?

Also, if the app is from the Play Store, you might want to contact the dev via email and see if he/she is aware of any recent issues (if users send back reports, the dev will be able to view the crash details in their developer console).

Their contact info is in the Play Store listings "Additional Info" section under Developer.

I asked for more information in an attempt to help and was flatly refused the requested information.
Why?

I think the OP's entitled to the benefit of doubt regarding the pedigree of the app in question and simply omitted it's name because the specific app may not, in their opinion, be relevant to the question / problem they're posing.

what causes the app to close in android
  1. User closes the app (by killing task)
  2. Android closes the app to free memory (Android uses Out-Of-Memory prioritizing to free unused memory)
    1. This can kill poorly coded apps more frequently
  3. App crashes, which in most cases it shows you the generic error you posted

There are so many reasons that this could happen but it is most likeley the app itself. If the app is running a service, the service could error in the background and cause the whole app to crash. You could get logs using logcat but as of Jelly Bean, applications cannot use the READ_LOGS permission to read logs for other applications with a different signing key, unless of course you are on a rooted device and you could do this very easily.
