Truthfully, additional storage is not needed with the advent of the Cloud.

That's just a naively presumptive attitude. For most people, the all-holy 'cloud isn't free, or even necessarily available everywhere they'd need it. Either for the storage, or to transport their bits to it, or both. Large storage capacity locally in the device itself is always going to be an extremely large and important, if not required, value add for many people. How many? Samsung obviously is bet that it's not enough to compel them to accommodate them. I hope people convince them very painfully that they were inexcusably wrong about that.

FWIW,here's an article from XDA NEWS on theNote 5 & has some thoughts/speculation/explanation on why the SD Card slot was not included, seems that it wasn't just related to slimming the phone size down, cost reductions:
http://www.xda-developers.com/note5...es-and-thoughts-on-microsd-removable-battery/

The difference with newer Samsung devices is that they use UFS 2.0 storage, which has faster speeds. However, it is reported that the memory handler of this solution is incompatible with that of traditional microSD cards, so Samsung had to opt for one or the other. Eventually, there might be a way around it and future phones might marry the standards. But I want to point this out because many blame the lack of microSD on the design of the phone, when in reality it’s a conscious choice related to actual storage.

Whether or not the reasons stated are fact, reasonable assumptions/etc....,I don't know, that's a little above my pay grade, but, there it is.
Anyone else have thoughts on this?

I read that full article and was curious about the storage and from what I understand it is faster and more energy efficient. It allows for stuff like streaming 4k video, or recording QHD videos fast and flawlessly. According to this http://www.androidauthority.com/what-is-ufs-and-why-it-matters-590015/ a few big tech companies want to make this the next standard. So faster more energy efficient storage, cool. I understand some people have to have one for various reasons, but if your not rooting, honestly why is the cloud bad for storing songs, pictures, etc. on to move it between phones? Not as fast, but it will never get destroyed or lost.

Excuse me. I almost lost a ton of important pictures because of the lack of an SD card. It takes TIME to upload/backup to the cloud. And that's IFF you are even able to get good reception. My phone DIED while it was uploading my pictures. If it wasn't just the battery (which died after just 5 hours of standby) I'd have lost all of those pictures. With my luck this will happen one day. I have had more than 20 smart phones and most of them had to be returned because of faulty hardware. I've had more than one just die on me. My last phone (Note 3) I had to suffer with for a YEAR without data because the phone was faulty and Sprint wouldn't honor the warranty.

I NEED an sd card.

Regretting not getting a One Plus 2.

I just got the 32gb, I had the 32gb N4 and never filled it up. I just back up my pics and videos to my iMac. I don't really listen to music on my phone, and I've got a 64gb SD card in my car's audio system. I don't think I've ever used more than 34% of the storage space. My wife inherited my N4 and loves it, it's a big step up from her old iPhone 4S.

I had to get the 64gb because on my Note 3 I had used 31 gb total including what I put on my sd card. I like to keep my music pics and ebooks on my phone so that I won't use data trying to listen to my music, find pictures or read a book. My Note is my phone and tablet so that I am only carrying one device. That is the main reason I like the note series.

This is my debate right now. Deciding if I should go to the S7 Edge or Note 5. I'm due for an upgrade which I'm going to get today but not sure which to get. I'm leaning towards the Edge because of the SD Card slot because the lack of the SD Card slot kinda scares me but I currently have the Note 4 32GB and have roughly 9GB of free space but I know there are apps that I probably don't need on there. I got a 64GB SD card in my Note 4 but have 45GB Free in that.

Any of you regret getting the Note 5 due to lack of SD Card? I admit I'd miss the Note though if I went to the Edge.

EDIT: Ahhh...went with the Note5. My wife got the S7 Edge. While the SD Card slot thing is a downer, I think I'll be able to live with it. Most of my files (pics, music, etc.) are saved out in the cloud anyway. Whats cool though is the GEAR VR. With my wife getting the S7 Edge we got the headset for free (samsung promotion). I was expecting 6-8 weeks to be mailed but they had them at the store.
