I'm excited about this phone with the announcement of the impressive audio specs. LG is not messing around with this one.

32 bit Hi-Fi DAC by ESS Technology

ESS Sabre 9018C2M digital to analog converter chip inside, as well as an ESS 9602C headphone amplifier.

These are some serious audio specs for those that like to listen to music and other media on their phone. A great chip by a great company with their amp to boot. Let's hope that it's well implemented.

I was seriously impressed by the audio on this phone also.
The HI-FI setting takes playback of audio to a new level!

Does this setting only work with ear buds plugged in? When I connect my bluetooth headphones, this setting is greyed out. Its also greyed out when no headphones are connected and no music is turned on. So the default setting seems to be off. Can this be changed?

Yes, and out of the box, only with the LG music app

Because Bluetooth audio doesn't use the ESS DAC chip in the phone, it's going digitally to the phone's BT radio instead, and being converted to analog by the DAC in the BT headphones.

Just an fyi, someone over at xda created an app called "dac fix for LG V10" that enables the dac for everything going through the headphone jack.
