Do you really need a screen protector

I stopped using screen protectors over the last year as I began to swipe text. (No screen protector is as smooth as glass). Travel a lot and have a pristine screen. From the huge amount of articles on the subject it looks like sand is the number one enemy and justification for a screen protector. To each his own, so don't flame me unless you manufacture a screen protector.

I stopped wasting the money on them also. Haven't used one in about a year, and my screen is still like new.

Just realized my S4 doesn't have a screen protector. I have a case on it though. It's still looks brand new.

IMO, yes and no.. it depends on one's preferences.. I usually have them on my devices just to have some peace of mind cause it's not guarantee that this so called gorilla glass or whatever won't get scratched or something..I did it so when I decided to upgrade and sell my current one, it would somehow retain its value at least to some degree.

I've always used the Zagg Invisible Shield screen protector with a case. I've had a the Moto Back Flip, Moto Atrix, SGS4 and now the SGS7. My S4 screen got cracked and stopped working when I dropped my phone, face down, on the metal frame of the shopping cart. Long story short, I ended up just replacing the screen and digitizer for around $125. (I only paid $200 for my S4 since on a 2 yrs contract) With the S7, I paid $695. So ya, I'm actually going with a glass screen protector this time, since I won't be able to repair the screen if it brakes.

These days a screen protector is more for drop protection than keeping the screen free of scratches. So depending on your dexterity you probably wouldn't need one anymore.

Haven't used a screen protector on my Note 3 since I bought it over two years ago. It still has zero scratches on it and smooth.

They are so hard to get on correctly also. One little spec of dust or hair and it's ruined.

Same with my Note 3. After almost 3 years, it still looks brand new.

Unless you know for sure you're going to be dropping it a lot, the screen is pretty resilient.

If you're clumsy or have broken a screen before, tempered glass is what I'd recommend.

I don't use 'em myself,but,would consider a tempered-glass one for the S7 Edge if one actually fit properly (& has full-edge protection).
As for the non-glass screen protectors,not a snowballs chance,gave-em up long ago,just seeing the outline of it on the display is bad enough,much less the feel of it.

However,they're not without merit.
I too,as many here,take very good care of my phones & somehow,my Note4 screen managed to get a small scratch.
While not noticeable during on-screen use,it bugged the s*** out of me knowing it was there,so,I get why some use them on any phone they get.
And,as someone previously mentioned,they do add a bit of protection against impact damage.
With the larger-screened devices being more prone to such,I totally get why some slap one on from day one.
The Gorilla Glass is tough,but,not bulletproof,however,I'll take my chances,as the aesthetics/feel outweigh my concerns regarding the higher chance of marring/damage.................

So worth it, i put a tempered glass screen on mu S4, last year I am not sure how it had cracks. I am careful but sometimes you just have accidents.

Beleive it or not some folks consider cracks a cool thing. That praticular phone you posted a photo of is beyond craks though. I'm surprised it still works.

I'm all for screen protectors... Not so much for drops... But scratches from grit, coins and keys annoy the heck out of me.

This is so true. I ordered one off Amazon, before the S7 was released, and it is to small for the screen. So I'm sending it back for a refund. Even the S7 screen has a small curve, so it will be interesting to see who's going to do it right

I have used a Seidio case with built in screen protector on my S5. I works & has protected mine from scratches & etc. as I have dropped my phone a few times. accidents happen. I always thought the gorilla glass was suppose to be near bullet proof. The screen cover on my seidio case however smudges will bad & just can not get it 100% clean and it lets dust under it. I put a tempered glass protector on my Galaxy tablet & it works really great. So I will either buy one for my S7 that I get today, or either a case with built in screen protector. I hate those cases as they are heavy, so I may go with a slim case & glass this time.

There is a thread in another forum where someone had their S7 badly scratched from just being in a pocket in not even 24 hours.

A $10 screen saver probably would have stopped it, so yes I am planning to get one, just not sure what yet.

what is really good is the case just covers the protector so issues with protector lifting

I stopped using protectors after my Samsung Moment. But I'm considering getting one for the back of my S7 just to make it more grippy. It slides off of EVERYTHING.

Is the back glass or plastic?

Does anyone else have this annoying issue... For the s7 edge & even s6 edge, I'm using/used a screen protector. But then when I put a case on it, it peels/lifts up the screen protector on the perimeter. I haven't seen anyone else complain. Any solution, or am I being super ocd?
