Extended Battery?

Hello,
I just bought my son the Commando, he's had it since Monday. I am thinking of getting the extended battery because he isn't even getting a full day out of the current battery. I installed Juice Defender basic yesterday, and today after charging all night the battery is yellow at 9pm, and he charged it for a half hour during the day. Screen on auto brightness, wifi and gps disabled. It's his first smartphone so I'm sure he is using it a lot right now, but he needs to get more than a few hours of battery life. I don't want him to get stuck out somewhere with no phone to call us. (I'm an Android user, I have an Inc2 after an Eris, so I am familiar with how it works.)

When he got the phone he used it prior to charging it up, which I heard was a big no-no, but I thought that wan't actually true.

Anyway, does anyone recommend the extended battery, and if so, where's the best place to get it?

Thanks.

Using it before charging is a wife's tale that needs to be stopped.

First of all these phones, basically all phones now days, use a Lithium Ion battery pack. They don't suffer all the problems that NiCd or NiMH batteries have.

Every new phone i have ever bought i powered on and ran the battery down before its first charge. The batteries have outlasted the phone's contract period of two years each time. So i can't say it hurts the battery any.

Do you need to drain the battery before charging? No...

With Lithium batteries you can top them off whenever you want without harm. I have Lithium flashlight batteries that i treat the same way, i get 4-5 years out of each set of cells. Considering heavy use, thats pretty good in my book!

So I had to wait till Christmas morning to open the battery. So I had a fully charged new 1800mah battery yesterday morning, she did darn good with heavy video use. I did charge it mid-day since the charger was next to me. Usually with heavy video use the battery hits the yellow mark quick. With this new battery it did take a while to hit it.

To me it is worth it.

I don't know about 5 times, but it is generally a good idea at least the first time and once again a month or two later so the phone can adjust it's cut off voltages to best suit the battery.

john - I *really* appreciate your full-length battery saving suggestions. Currently waiting for my Casio to arrive in the mail, and couldn't find any appreciable extended battery except the 1800mAh.

Your post made me realize I could easily extend my standby/talk time by tweaking the heck out of it when it gets here!!
