Root How to check if bootloader is unlock

Hello,
I have samsung S4 AT&T, I know that AT&T locks down the bootloader but still I would like to check it. Is there any code or command through which I can see the status of bootloader ? Like in my Moto X in fastboot mode it says Device Status, is there anything like in Samsung ?

Im running Android 4.4.4 and rooted.

Saw your post but didn't answer because as far as I know there is no way to check if the bootloader is locked on Samsung devices. Waited to see if someone with more knowledge than myself would answer. I have a i337 also that is rooted and updated to 5.0 but that is about all you can do with it other than maybe Safe Strap. I don't think it's dead here but most are like me and won't reply unless they have a answer. Sorry no one responded sooner.

Checked my i747 and i337 in download mode. Is it the Knox Kernel: Lock or the Write Protection: enabled that would be the clue that your bootloader is locked?
I also know that it is locked on the i337 but those two items are what stand out as different between the S3 and S4. Curious.

In answer to the OP question, Jfalls63's reply in post #3 is spot on. There is no way to tell if the bootloader is locked, (unrootable), until you attempt to root. However, as a rule of the thumb, all recent firmware updates from both AT&T and Verizon, have introduced their own mega locked down bootloaders that prevent rooting or downgrading. See #1.6 of 42 Galaxy S5 models - Dummies Guide.

This is NOT a Google or Samsung imposition but one that is applied by those 2 carriers and applies to all the recent firmware updates for the S4, S5, S6 and, "possibly", the S7.

If the OP is on Android 4.4.4 and rooted, then flashing the latest AT&T stock release, if you could get hold of it, will almost certainly render the phone unrootable. Best bet to upgrade would be to flash a pre-rooted stock AT&T ROM that has the old bootloader.

Bottom line... if you are into rooting, don't get the AT&T or Verizon models.

1 question I would like to ask as I'm on Android 4.4.4 and with NJ4 bootloader and rooted, is it possible for me to downgrade to stock MDB (Android 4.2.2) using Odin ?

You could downgrade by flashing the stock AT&T firmware. However, you will have to re-root after downgrading. The other thing worth considering is that by downgrading, you are losing any of the newer bugfixes and more importantly, the later security updates.

AT&T and Verizon have been locking their bootloaders since I was knee high to a grasshopper.

I'm pretty sure that even the first build for the i337 has locked bootloader. I'm downloading it now from Sammobile. I don't use my S4 except to play with so I don't mind experimenting with it. If you are looking for a way to run a custom ROM, I think TouchWiz based Roms and SafeStrap is the only option. Not going to be able to flash AOSP Roms like CM 13.

Think it means that Knox will not let you downgrade. Ive got it downloaded but got sidetracked and haven't tried it yet.

Too bad I will never buy att shit again.

Anyways I got another issue hope you can help me in this matter as well.

I wanted to change android mode from enforcing to permissive so I downloaded an app called se mod changer but the problem is that when I select permissive it just revert back to enforcing without any error. I also tried to change mod using terminal but that also revert back to enforcing.

I tried this app on moto x and s3 and it worked fine.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Not familiar with the app so not going to be any help there. I feel your pain with AT&T. I've been getting away from Carrier branded and Samsung phones for daily use. My current daily driver is a Moto XPE 6.0 that I like as is out of the box. Also a Nexus 6 that I have been playing with Android N. I still pick up broken Samsung phones when I find them. Most are easy to fix and give them to young relatives.

Just tried to flash with Odin and also failed. If you are wanting to try something different you could update to 5.0 and keep root. Good guide at XDA.

Pulled my S4 out of the desk to see what I can do with it. Found a few things at XDA you might be interested in. I managed to install Xposed a few weeks ago without any issues. So far only using Wanam. Located Safestrap and it's thread has a link to roms. My S4 is not for daily use so not hurt much if it borks. Probably flash a few things this weekend.
