Do you really need a screen protector

I have the S7 Edge and put skins by Dbrand on it because I decided it was way too slippery and a big fingerprint magnet. Plus I didn't like the Verizon logo and Samsung brand AND I noticed if I look real hard with the light just right, below the S7 Edge logo you can see some fine print below the finish... what is up with that? Check it out yourself under bright light tilting the phone and you will see several text lines with a garbage can etc. That use to be under the rear housing cover, but since you can't take the back off, it is now there on the back of your nice finish.

I was toying with putting tempered glass on this, but changed my mind. I'll stretch my six year scratch-less record to 8 years. :D
If I see enough positive post on the tempered glass/brand, fit/quality, I may take off the carbon fiber and go with that... I'm going to do a lot of research first.

OK, I think I'll hold off and getting a screen protector for now. I was at Best Buy today looking at the Zaggs HD screen protector and the sales guy who was impressed with my purple skin:

He even took a picture of me with the purple phone in hand with my purple gear S smartwatch.
Said I don't need a screen protector... (made me promise not to tell anyone at the store as he is suppose to sell, not talk out of...) promptly took out his Note 5, grabbed his car keys and proceeded to scrape hard all over his screen and tap on it hard... no scratches at all, asked if I wanted to try it on his phone. I said I believed him LOL
I was impressed! Anyways, I ask him why he did that and he said my phone looked too nice to put anything else on it. So, I thanked him and went on my way, didn't by the screen protector. Saved me $25 plus installation.

I had a Note 2 that I had a tempered glass screen protector on until it took a couple drops off the nightstand and cracked the protector. By that time I'd had the phone for awhile and was thinking about an upgrade anyway, so I didn't bother putting another glass protector on it and ran it naked for several months before upgrading and then handing it down to my mom. I did notice that while naked the display picked up some fine scratches, I guess just from friction in the pocket with dust and whatnot. Only noticeable when viewing the screen at an angle with the light hitting it just right, however. Kind of like swirl marks or scratches in a car's clearcoat if you've ever seen that. Granted that was Gorilla Glass 2? And we're now on Gorilla Glass 4.

I don't know how much more resilient GG4 is to that kind of fine scratches so I'm running a IQ Shield protector on mine for the time being just in case. I'd like to replace that with a tempered glass protector though as I am not fond of that tacky/sticky feel of the regular protectors and much prefer the clarity and smoothness of glass protectors.

I've seen SO many videos where they try to scratch the screen with tools, and cant. How can people say this thing is easy to scratch?
A couple weeks ago, a Best Buy salesman demonstrated just that... when I asked him if I should get a screen protector, he promptly took out his Note 5, grabbed his car keys and proceeded to scrape hard all over his screen and tap on it hard... no scratches at all, asked if I wanted to try it on his phone. I said I believed him LOL

BTW, there still are no tempered glass screen protectors for the S7 Edge. Maybe they can't do it?

Gorilla Glass has a Mohs scale hardness of about 6.5. Steel has 5. Of course keys can't scratch Gorilla glass. Unless given enough pressure. Sand is primarily composed of silicon, which has a mohs scale of 7-8. So sand in your pocket = scratched up screen.

I feel like I need a screen protector. While awaiting delivery of my screen protector my S7 Edge glass got 3 scratches just by being in my purse for half a day. The device was a preorder and came early. The protector (Yooutech) is thick, covers to the edge but doesn't stick well. The protector had a 5 star rating (in preorder time) which is now 2.5. The case I bought is sturdy and has taken the brunt of a hefty drop but it fits snugly so it pushes the protector forward leaving a huge bubble which now has dirt and dust gathered underneath. I'm not sure if it's the case or the protector that needs replacement. Is anyone else having this problem with screen protectors staying on the S7 Edge with a case?

Does anyone else have this annoying issue... For the s7 edge & even s6 edge, I'm using/used a screen protector. But then when I put a case on it, it peels/lifts up the screen protector on the perimeter. I haven't seen anyone else complain. Any solution, or am I being super ocd?
No, I just posted this same thing before seeing your post.
The way the screen curves, I can't see how that can't be avoided? Maybe tempered glass would work? But they don't have those out yet...

You should never put a phone without protection of any kind in your purse or pocket. It WILL get scratched. I don't use a screen protector or case, but do put the phone in a soft "eyeglass" case when not using it which keeps it like new. I've been doing this for years and why I haven't needed a screen protector or case. I don't drop my phones... when I am using my phone, it has my undivided attention, not doing things like tying my shoes or multitasking of any kind.

When I was a Genius at Apple I heard this question 20 x a day. My response was to pull out my car key and start scratching at their screen while they screamed and begged me to stop.

After they realized the screen was undamaged I asked "so is a piece of plastic going to protect your screen from that".

Secondly I reminded them that they lose about 20% touch sensitivity with a screen protector.

For the paranoid.. A screen protector is fine. Even if it is just a placebo.

For those that just don't know better; don't bother. We haven't needed screen protectors for almost 10 years.

And this is one of the reasons why people are misinformed about screen scratching. See my previous post:

LOL, I started this key thing a few posts ago, so I'm not surprised, especially since I haven't used a screen protector on my last few phones, Blackjack II, S 3, S5, Note 4 and now the S7 Edge. No scratches on any of those screens.

However, you have to be careful NOT to drop the phone as if they fall on the corner of phone, it could shatter the screen... or so I've read.

I was undecided about a screen protector for my S7 Edge but decided to put one on anyway. Yesterday I was sat on my patio when the phone slipped out of my pocket onto the concrete. Only a drop of a couple of feet but it landed on its front and skidded about a foot. The screen protector has loads of fairly deep scratches now and I shudder to think of the damage if the phone had been unprotected.

Depends if there was sand on your patio, or anything there that was much harder than glass. It's the skidding and rubbing really.
