Nexus 4 won't charge

A few weeks ago I noticed that my Nexus 4 doesn't charge. I plugged in different cables and used several chargers. It also won't show up on my PC (Ubuntu 14.04).
I ended up buying a new phone (Nexus 6), but I still want this old Nexus 4 to work; I want to use it as my experimental phone.

I bought a new charger port thing (looks like a small PCB with a USB port and a flexible flat cable) and replaced the old one, but the problem persists.

Of course the warranty went out a long time ago, so that's not an issue…

The battery is probably ok, it's not even empty. Still at about 14 % after all those weeks – I've had it turned off most of the time. The phone starts up alright, but it just doesn't charge and it doesn't connect to my PC. I've used the same cables and chargers with my new Nexus 6 and it connects fine to my PC and it charges with all my cables and chargers.

So what else can it be if not the USB port PCB thing?
