Adoptable storage with 3rd gen + a few other q's.

Looking around for a possible new phone with VM. My LG G Stylo has been flickering oddly lately. Found that this is a hardware issue, so here I am.

How does adoptable storage with this phone stack up? I've noticed issues with this among phones with low internal storage that run on Marshmallow. The Moto G is on a short list of phones I may possibly move into. I've never had a phone exhibit problems so early, at least not since I got my first Android, a Samsung Intercept. I barely got any money back for that one back in 2011... the original seller never responded to my claims, so I sold it to a recycler.

I bought my Stylo four months ago. Gave away a phone that worked much better than the Stylo (LG Tribute)... UGH.

Another thing: I've read that the phone is rugged enough to go without a case. Is this true? That would be great for pocket friendly use. I already have a hard time stuffing my Stylo onto a pocket (and that's with the smallest outer case I could find for it). I'm guessing it's still a good idea to use a screen protector, though. Those things have saved my screens. Never lost or cracked one from a drop, even with the cheap protectors.

For now, it's between this, and the Alcatel OneTouch Elevate. I'm not interested in a phone comparison; I know enough about which is the more superior phone. I'm also looking at the price, as both are on sale at Best Buy currently. The Moto G is @ $99.99, Elevate @ $19.99.

Thanks for any responses.

Frankly, not great... the results are hit and miss, but this isn't exclusive to the Moto G3, Android's implementation of adopted storage is still young, there are growing pains. Better to fork out the extra $20 for the 2GB/16GB version and use portable storage, I have found it to be enough for everything I do.

Although I generally don't recommend going without at least a minimal bump case on any device, like a simple TPU or silicon type case at least, the Moto G3 is a solid device and waterproof, it takes beating fairly well. There are many very slim cases available to give minimal corner drop protection (it's only real weak point).

So at that price your looking at a carrier branded version... be aware that Marshmallow is not available for those (XT1548) yet, and there is no guarantee it will be, so it's Lollipop and no adoptable storage at this time or possibly ever. The Virgin Mobile USA one only has a 50/50 chance of even getting it, VM-USA is horrible with updates.

I did the math and, as a light data and voice user, I signed up with no-contract Consumer Cellular that uses the ATT network. I bought an unlocked Motorola G3 (2015) 2GB/16GB on the net for something like $220. Compared to a 2-year contract I will save money but I won't get a new phone periodically. For me this deal made sense at my monthly data/voice/text usage.
