So I used to use GreenPower since I don't want to have data or wifi always on, but I need them on every now and then to let a Viber message or email through and alert me. So I had it setup to turn data on for 2 minutes, then off again, at 30min intervals. This saves me a lot of battery especially in a hospital where I work, with lots of lead walls and stuff. Now Android tells me this can't be done without root? Does anyone know a workaround?

Edit.

Well so far battery life has been pretty good despite no assistance from GreenPower. I was even downloading a 250mb game via LTE during this cycle:

Does anyone else have any idea what's wrong with my Galaxy s7 edge? When not using it at all, it'll drop 20% of it's power in 3 hours. It'll last an entire 10 hour shift at night provided that I don't send any texts or touch it much at all. I tried the cache partition clean, it was a short term (1 day) fix at best. People keep saying that I have too many apps drawing, but it's primarily Android System and Android OS. People say "turn everything off - gps, bluetooth" - well then what's the damn point of having a smartphone?

Sounds like a rogue app running in background when it shouldn't. Android services could also be caused by an app asking for it to run.

So something that isn't showing up when I check the battery status? I guess my only choice now is to do a hard reset and install things individually - I'd used the automatic Verizon transfer when I got the phone (my old phone's battery working horribly, too).

Yup. Sounds like something carried over. You could try less drastic measures first. Gsam battery monitor from Play Store is much more detailed than stock battery monitor. You could try that. If you don't have too many apps you could list them here too.

Thanks. I found that Gsam battery didn't really tell me anything useful. It wasn't showing any particular app that was the problem. I just did a hard reset and didn't transfer anything over. Yeah, it'll take me a little while to set it up again, but I really expect more from this phone, and it's making me angry, lol. Thanks!

Greetings, I just purchased a GS7 and haven't adapted to the interface yet. The battery on my phone almost evaporates it drains so quickly. I believe once I get to know the patterns of the device I'll be happy with it but for now I'm in a state of disbelief on how quickly it drains.
Any suggestions, thank you in advance.
I agree with you. I went from my GS5 to this and the battery life is worse. This is extremely disappointing. Using Battery Power Safer mode cuts off most usable functions.

I was on the S5 previously and didn't have these issues with the S5. The battery for S7 Edge is awful: excessive battery usage - 5% in 15 mins (phone can last 4.5 hours only without recharging) and extremely warm device after using the phone. chanchan05 has been helpful about the issue but so far no resolution in sight.

I attached a screenshot from GSam Battery Monitor below. It showed 5% battery usage in 15 mins and the majority of the usage is for the screen. Does anyone have this problem as well with the S7 Edge?

Have data, wifi, bluetooth, location, background data, Always-on, etc all turned off. Screen brightness is 45% on auto.

Why is the Phone scored out? Bad reception? That would be a large part of the drain if it is.

No, the phone has nothing to do with the drain. The results showed the screen was utilizing 91% of the battery during that 15 mins.

I deny the app access to the phone. So the phone is scored out. The app would ask for permission to "use" the phone each time I launched the app.

The phone was never in used during that 15 minutes. I tested several times, during that 15 mins test, I read an ebook, used app like Reuters, Voice of America, etc. They all used up 5% in 15 mins.

Ok so you have good cell reception i assume then? as that WILL cause drain if it's poor.

If cell reception is good, then it must be a rogue app you have installed. I would be doing a factory reset if my batt life was that bad to be honest.

Yes, my cell reception is excellent.

No rouge app. I install only "mainstream" apps from large, reputable companies or apps with at least 500,000 installs. No games, small time apps, apps from amateurs, etc. And I have no more than 10 apps on the phone, majority of them are news apps (Reuters, VOA, etc).

Factory reset is an option. I will try that when I find time. The other option is to wait for a software update if that update will address this issue. Lastly, if no one else is experiencing a 5% usage in 15 mins, then my device is defective.

My stats for the last couple of days, i haven't used the phone much to be honest in that time, but 2+ days of uptime should be easily achievable. I usually do 4hrs or more screen on time.

Your 57% usage in 2 days looks good. In those 2 days, your screen uses only 15%.

I bet your battery usage in 15 mins would be very impressive.

In my case, the screen is the main culprit, using 91% of the battery.

My S5 absolutely got better battery life than my S7 (non Edge)! My location is the same, the apps are the same, I keep ON GPS, bluetooth, etc...all those things that make a smartphone smart but I did the same with my S5. I could exceed 24 hours with my S5. I won't get more than about 15-17 hours with the S7. I was expecting more out of this battery. Love the phone tho!

I have a problem..............please help!

My phone drains 30% to 40% overnight while just sitting on a table.
Charged to 100% last night at 11pm, unplugged it from charger and it was 60% at 6am this morning.
Right now usage is:
Facebook 42% (IS THIS NORMAL?)
Android system 24%
Android OS 10%
Camera 6%
Google Play 5%
Cell Standby 4%
Screen 3%
Phone Idle 2%
and a bunch of stuff at 1%

My previous S5 at 2 years old would only lose maybe 5% overnight and I had all of the same apps.

What the heck is wrong with my phone!

Yup Facebook app is a major battery hog/drainer. However i don't find this to be the case on my s7e, I think it's more to do with how and what you sync with Facebook and the settings you have setup within.

Either way try the Metal app, which is a browser based frontend to FB and Twitter. Unfortunately its not as slick as the fb/messenger apps.

Thanks for the tips, I have just uninstalled FB and will see what happens.
When I look at battery usage now, it reads:
10201 96%
Android sytem 3%
nothing else listed

Anyone know what 10201 is?

I have a feeling something else might be going on.
I had FB and all other same apps on my S5 and did not have this problem.

There's no way a phone should use 40% overnight while just sitting.

Here's a clip:
