Phone corrupts any files transferred to a micro SD card.

I just got a brand new HTC one M9 along with a San Disk 200gb micro sd card. I've finally narrowed down that the problem looks to be the phone and not the SD card.

I've transferred my whole music library several times to the sd card and each time most of the songs are corrupted. The songs still play but have weird noises randomly during. And some songs just don't play. Also the album art for some covers look all distorted. I tried the same thing for just pictures and had similar results. I transferred files through my computer to the card using an sd card adapter. I also put the micro sd card in the phone, mounted and formatted it correctly, then transferred the files to the card. Each time having the same results. And I have tried different micro SD cards giving me the same results so its not the card.

I thought maybe I could be corrupting the files by improperly ejecting my phone or the SD card but that made no difference either. And of course I made sure that the files from my computer are not actually corrupted. My phone looks to be up to date and at this point I can't find any problem with the SD card.

If there's any information that I might have missed please let me know and I will provide it, thanks!

Please reply back if/when you get your new device. I'm interested in this one

I almost threw in my 2 cents earlier but was busy and wanted to let things develop further. I've still got some ideas rolling around

NO! the capacity of the card does not make it incompatible with the M9

I'm not getting another one I'm just going to return it and get something else, but other than the sd card problem it worked pretty well and ran quite smoothly.

Please reply back despite whatever device you end up with.

I'm ultimately curious if this is a data corruption, transfer problem, SD card adapter problem, MicroSD card problem etc.

The HTC 10 (they dropped the M this time around) just came out at Verizon and upcoming this week at Sprint, it might be worth a look. Don't let one bad experience spoil your opinion of HTC

Bring your MicroSD with you in store and see if they will let you test it in the display unit of whatever device you are thinking about.
Stick it in the display M9/10, see if it is a go

Is your HTC One M9 on marshmallow 6.0?

I saw an issue in another section of AF for a diffrent phone (LG G Stylo/T-Mobile/Marshmallow)

http://androidforums.com/threads/memory-card-corruption.1020832/

It's not the exact same issue you are having but it was similar.

I wonder if it may be Marshmallow, but really not sure. Not conclusive at all but who knows.

Its still lollipop v5.02 and from what it looks like theres an app called SuperSU that has something to do with making it compatible with the other apps. SuperSU will not let me install it and crashes everytime I try to do so. And I just did a factory reset and had the same results. Although, right after resetting the phone all the file transfers worked perfect, it was only after updating some things that it went back to the same problem.

Yea I won't be trying another HTC, not because of this situation just because I'm going to return this HTC and upgrade to the samsung S7 since its just a better phone in general and it can use the micro sd slot. Also the phone didn't really meet my expectations, like it ran fine other than the problems but it also got pretty hot just from doing simple things like updating apps. I don't think a phone should be working that hard just to update some apps from the playstore.

Strange. Your initial post said you got a brand new phone but it has Super SU on it?. Is it rooted? If so, that's not brand new.
I'm not sure what you mean by rooted but yea even after the factory reset, I looked for it right away and was able to update it, but after updating google play services it prompted me to update it again in which case it didn't work anymore.

Where did you buy your phone?

(Not trying to be nosy but just trying to figure out and help you)

I'll give my opinion but someone who owns an HTC One M9 can chime in with what to do next.

1. Your phone is likely rooted. (Based on the SuperSU app).
2. You did a factory reset which means IF the phone is rooted, the factory reset probably borked the phone. You should never factory reset a rooted device.
3. You will need to probably flash the original firmware of the phone IF you decide to keep the phone (That's a big IF)
4. My advice: RETURN THE PHONE. You were sold a used phone when it should have been brand new. Phones that are rooted have been tampered with and voids the manufacturer's warranty.

EDIT: I got ninja'd ... lol......Looks like you started the return process. That's the way to go.

Apologies:).

It's all good. That means you are fast!

I don't know what happened to them. They used to be good. I was a loyal customer until 2 months ago when I had the worst customer service experience of my life. I'm hesitant to bash them but.... :(

I've had pretty good luck buying used phones and tablets on Amazon. I've had the reverse happen to me, I order what I thought was a used one and it was actually brand new.

It's just sad that the OP ordered what they thought was a brand new phone and it ends up a used phone. Happens far too much.

The only reason I was so fast is because I was in there lodging complaint yesterday and saw that. Kind of a coincidence? Or commonplace?
