Has anyone been able to verify this? Looks like root has been achieved - just a few days after reading attempts to root will brick the device!

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62522866&postcount=320

I understand lots of fails were hit on that thread before success so, tread lightly.. also may need to enable OEM unlock in Dev settings, but unsure..

I'm on T-Mobile,just rooted w/alpha 3 kernel & installed TWRP.
No issues whatsoever, enabled OEM unlock as per root instructions.

Specifically as we discussed, nothing for AT&T or Verizon. Referring to the article I sent by way of KOLIO -

http://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/general/verizon-att-samsung-note-5-knox-root-t3183641

The Note 4 on Verizon and AT&T still doesn't have full root.

Models that have been verified to work are in this article (N920T, N920P, N920I, N920W8, and N920C)
http://www.androidheadlines.com/2015/08/samsung-galaxy-note-5-gets-root-and-twrp-treatment.html

And the thread @ XDA Developers:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/development/dev-pre-root-firmware-twrp-testing-t3183877

To no one's surprise,KNOX is tripped. (Honestly, they need to sell a non-KNOX Version already,a Samsung Play Edition if you will,w/all the goodies of TW & the S-Pen & minus the KNOX & CheetahMobile BullShirt). ;)

Got root & TWRP but, most probably wanna hold off on this ATM:
The T-Mobile root kernel build 3 seems to be causing most to have issues w/making phone calls:
Phone reboots after a minute or so into the phone call.
I'm experiencing this myself, looking to see if unrooting or,a fix is in the works/exists.
Not too worried,I'm confident this isn't a permanent FUBAR,but, most may just wanna stay stock until things smooth out & are relatively bug-free.

OK,I was able to restore via ODIN 3.10.7 all the way back to stock/unrooted.
This is usually a painless procedure, but, for whatever reason,ODIN wasn't seeing/flashing the main .tar file & the only way I could get it to work was to load the other smaller files the normal way (download mode) & reboot the phone, load the main .tar file while phone was on as normal & ODIN finally picked it up (definitely not SOP).
Afterwards,I rebooted to d/l mode & executed the flashing of all four files successfully via ODIN.

This root method was a bit different,as it had you flash the altered (rooting) kernel & then install TWRP,so,that made a stock nandroid backup impossible,AFAICT.
If not for the stock files available from SamMobile & other sources (pick one you trust) I may have been screwed for a while,as my phone continued to reboot during phone calls.
Hope others dive in,but, may want to wait for calmer waters.

Been a full day since I restored/ODIN'ed back to stock/out-of-the-box new condition.
Glad to report no lingering effects of the reboots during phone calls,& not a day too soon:
Had to spend an unusual amount of the time on the phone today troubleshooting HVAC/electrical issues @ work, not a single reboot, everything is O-TAY.
As for the rooting kernel,it's still a WIP,however, the dev is hard at work on it.
Seems like a real cool cat, worthy of support from the community. :thumbsupdroid:

Alrighteee,72 hrs w/o root was about all I could stand:
An alternative is available & from reports, does not bootloop during phone calls:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/development/arter97-kernel-galaxy-note-5-t3189907

I deviated a bit from the developers recommendation of using PhilzTouch Recovery & used TWRP 2.8.7.1 Alpha for SM- N920
The directions are in the thread, but,I'll post a quick how-to,however,grab the downloads from the links in the thread:

1) Download the kernel & SuperSU to your phone.Anywhere is OK,it'll show up in TWRP.

2) Install Odin 3.10.7 on your desktop PC.

3) Download TWRP-2.8.7.1-Alpha_N920T.tar.md5 to your desktop & move it to Odin.

4) Boot phone into download mode, plug into PC & Flash TWRP in Odin, phone will reboot, unplug phone from PC.

5) Reboot to TWRP:
At this point,it is STRONGLY URGED that you make a full backup. For added insurance, make an additional copy of this backup once were done here & place it in a safe spot, such as your desktop,USB Dongle, wherever.

Now,while still in TWRP recovery, install both kernel & SuperSU,reboot phone (YOU MUST FLASH BOTH AT THIS TIME,OR YOU WILL GET INTO A BOOTLOOP).
If by some chance you make a mistake & only flash SuperSU (which WILL bootloop),don't panic, just boot back into recovery, flash the kernel & you'll be OK.

Profit,you now have root. :thumbsupdroid:
After a day or two of use,I'll report back, hopefully no reboots during calls (or anytime, for that matter).
Also, the developer recommended the PhilzTouch recovery apparently as a precaution,as he had no way of testing/verifying w/TWRP.
But,someone had to try (at least one other person did over @XDA,I believe).
It's all part of the fun. ;)

One final note:
Rooting your NOTE5 technically voids any Samsung warranties, you proceed at you own risk,no one here is responsible for voided warranties/bricked phones,or otherwise.

Another note:
Flashing this kernel doesn't just give you root,it totally removes KNOX from your phone, hence the strong urging to perform a TWRP NANDROID Backup before flashing the Arter97 kernel & SuperSU.

Give me a day or two of use & if all is well,I hope to see others jump in.

Another root update:
Been using the Arter97 3.6 & now new 4.0 kernel (& recommended PhilZ Touch CWM Recovery) on the T-Mobile version for a few days :
No performance issues (no reboots/etc...),OTG from CWM Recovery is working.I switched to PhilZ Touch CWM Recovery from TWRP for this feature,as OTG is not working from TWRP recovery (with the Arter97 kernel) ATM.
During normal boot,OTG is working just fine.
The only issue with the Arter97 kernel ATM is WI-FI Calling is broke for the T-Mobile crowd.Otherwise,a stable daily driver kernel.

The Noble Kernel is still under development, work is continuing to resolve the reboot issues, especially during phone calls.
I'll be testing this kernel as well, easy enough to switch from one to another with very little downtime.
Be back in a few days with more info/testing on this kernel.

Another developer has joined the fold:
jovy23 has made a deodexed pre-rooted stock ROM for the T-Mobile variant of the Note5:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo...rom-n920tuvu1boh4-5-1-1-deodexed-ciq-t3194270

Another excellent piece of work,KNOX-free & WI-FI Calling is alive & well.
Just follow the instructions to the letter & everything will work.
Do not dirty flash,or artifacts from previous ROMS/kernels will be on-board,tested this myself.
So,if you're on T-Mobile & want a worry-free daily driver rooted ROM,look no further.
I'm still gonna test out other kernels/ROMS,until everyone's project(s) become stable/don't need testers anymore.
But,just as w/the NOTE4,this developers ROM will likely be my go-to daily driver.

When my S4 went swimming I had to get a something and the Note 5 had all the features I needed. But coverage wise I am stuck with Verizon or two tin cans. Given the history of Galaxy's eventually getting root can one be optimistic of rooting this thing or am I damned?
I don't envy your situation.
Never say never, but,in the present,it ain't lookin' too promising.

AT&T devices are notorious for being locked down in recent years.
The T-Mobile version is rootable & works on most AT&T bands, I've seen quite a few XDA'ers go this route w/the Note5 & several other devices....

Yeah I'm one of them, For me the T-mobile version is perfect on AT&T
Same with the T-Mobile Note 4 I got my Grandkid.
The last rootable samsung on AT&T was the S5 and S5 Active
