Help FREEING MEMORY ON 8GB TAB

When I bought my Galaxy Tab 4 last year, the salesman told me not to worry about it only having 8GB of memory because he could sell me an SD card for additional memory. As many others have pointed out in this forum, most apps cannot be loaded to the card. I use my tablet primarily to listen to audiobooks through Overdrive but cannot download a book because I don't have enough memory I have removed most of my apps, photos, data files, etc., to no avail. What are the Miscellaneous files and can some be deleted. Is it usual for the system to be using almost 4GB of the 8GB? I would appreciate your advice.

Off the top of my head, 4gb sounds reasonable for the Tab 4. But that should be plenty I should think. How big are audiobook files? Music and photos are usually the main user storage hogs. Games? Movies?
When you look under storage what are the main component categories? I wouldn't remove any Miscellaneous files.
