What's the best Google voice search you know?

I think voice is great for on-the-go type things where you really don't want to stop what you're doing to focus exclusively on your phone. Usually walking, or using the phone CAREFULLY in the car.

OK GOOGLE....
CALL contactname USING SPEAKERPHONE
boom. I'm talking on the phone and never touched it.

OPEN appname
  • OPEN iheartradio
    • starts iheartradio playing the last channel I was listening to!
      • (there is a setting within iheartradio app to control whether it starts immediately upon opening).
"note to self" or "take a note" are great features.
  • You can control which app the note goes to on-the-fly by saying:
    • NOTE TO SELF WITH appname
    • where appname is "google keep" or "gtasks" or "evernote" etc.
    • Then it'll remember your choice of preferred app for future note to self until the next time you say "WITH appname" at which time it'll create a new default.
  • Using google keep as preferred note-to-self app has an amazing benefit:
    • because it saves BOTH a transcript and a recording. That way if you go back later and the transcript is a little garbled (remember to buy toad lips) you can listen to the recording to see WTF you really said (oh yeah... potato chips!)
Another interesting integration is with google keep lists
  • ADD milk TO shopping LIST
    • ...will create a list named "shopping" and add milk to it. The next time you add something it'll go to that same list named shopping
  • ADD bread TO shopping LIST
    • ... (now the list has milk and bread)
  • Small problem:
    • ADD peanut butter TO shopping LIST
      • ...adds separate entries for peanut and butter. Oh well, not perfect
  • By the way it's not limited to shopping list.
    • You can substitute any listname.
    • Let's say you want to add list of things to bring on vacation
      • ADD camera TO vacation LIST
      • will make a list named vacation with camera on it.
      • ADD swimsuit TO vacation LIST
      • (now the list named vacation has two things on it).
Alarms, reminders, appointments are similar structure to each other:
  • SET AN ALARM FOR four pm today LABEL call Grandma
  • CREATE AN APPOINTMENT FOR three pm tuesday LABEL doctor who
  • SET A REMINDER FOR three hours from now LABEL wash the cat
    • I haven't quite got the hang of location reminders yet but it might have a lot of potential

When I'm driving I like commands that give me voice feedback
  • WHAT'S MY NEXT REMINDER
  • WHAT'S MY NEXT APPOINTMENT
    • both of above give audio answer.
    • unfortunatley "what's my next alarm" gives visual feedback in the google clock app.
  • More audio feedback
    • WHAT'S THE WEATHER TODAY
    • WHAT'S THE WEATHER TOMORROW

Miscellaneous
  • WHAT'S THAT SONG
  • RESTAURANTS NEAR ME
  • WHAT TIME DOES target OPEN today
There's a lot more that can be done and it'll only continue to grow with Google's api for app integration with Google voice actions. I'd love to be able to specify which iheartradio channel will be opened. Or send a note to a specific gtasks list with a due date/time...
