Hi, I have a galaxy s5 and I'm still with android version 5.0 because there's no Software Update available for me :eek:, when I click the Update Now it says that "The lastest updates have already been installed" so can anyone help me if there is any way I can update my smasung to andorid 6.0 ? Thanks :)

just because you have an S5, does not mean that your local carrier, or region, has the updates to MM or 6.0

I suggest there is nothing wrong at all in your case, just that the carrier, or region has not been offered the MM upgraded software yet.

As I am on Verizon, what you are experiencing is just "everyday" news for us....
we often never get the latest updates that the rest of the world sees and gets to play with.

if, however, you get a message as I first did: "not enough memory space available, please remove old items or remove extra apps".

and then that message stated, "xyz gBytes of space is required"

I had mistakenly backed up all of my apps on Internal Memory of the device.. and Android 6.0 would not install... period....

when I started looking to see what was on the Internal Memory, I realized that I had forgotten to make the Default for backups to the SD card.... once I did that, made a new backup, and deleted the backups on the Internal device space, MM installed without a whimper.

I have the same issue, except I know the reason now. I have the Verizon S5 that was on the Metro/T-mobile network. Certain things don't work when you're not on the correct network, and it's not the same for everyone. My S5's fingerprint scanner stopped working, I had to try several variations of APN settings before I could send and and receive SMS, and my Android pay /Google wallet stopped working, not to mention that since it's not on the correct network, I can't update it to Marshmallow. Where do you live and what network are you on?

Or use the Verizon Samsung Software Update and Repair Tool

I've never flagged or messed around with the firmware on this phone, so start me at the beginning. Do I need to download this on a computer first? Or do I download it direct to the phone? And does it have to be rooted? I'm not too concerned anymore. I still have the phone, but I use an LG V10 as my daily driver now.

Both need to be used with a PC. Using the Verizon tool would be the easiest for you.
When you connect a Verizon phone to a PC you get a few pop up message about Software to help you connect to PC. USB drivers and the Verizon tool. Install them on PC . The tool will prompt you and you follow instructions

Thank U for the help, but im kind of out of these things so sorry, can u explain me some things like: do these ways have any bad effects on my phone ? I mean if I update my phone in this way, It's same thing like the regular update ? Do I always need to update it in this way after, and does it affect on my files ?

The 6.0.1 update has been released for a few months, not sure why you haven't received it yet.
I doubt that the S5 will receive any further updates except maybe security updates.
The link to the firmware from Sammobile is for completely flashing the system. Not sure about data. You would definitely want to backup everything you don't want to lose, just in case.
You can also try Kies3 for updating. Should have a option to backup your data.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Verizon Tool that you activate by clicking on the .exe when the phone is first connected to the PC, will find and repair any bad firmware on the phone.
then once that is done, it will install the same exact firmware that you would have downloaded OTA or via WiFi.
the end result will be identical, you will have the latest software available to you on that phone, when it is done.
If done correctly this is the cleanest way to upgrade. Clean slate. Like it came from the factory with MM already installed.
I did the update and now my android is 6.0.1 but only Music app is updated and a few other features, only the icons has changed to other apps like phone, messages etc... did I do smth wrong ? or updates will come after ? because the notification to update "Music" came after I did the android 6.0.1 update ?
How did you eventually get it to update?
Not a lot of appearance difference between 5.0 and 6.0, must changes are in how it operates.
Some of your current apps will have to update to be compatible with 6.0
I followed ur instructions, and saw a video on youtube, I think I did it right... But only Gallery and Volume changed their apparence first, than i got a notification to update Music so it has a new apparence too, so other things are the same just updated their logos... maybe updates will come after like "music" update ?!
