Help Multiple weird issues (incl. SD card woes and disappearing files)

Hey, guys... been experiencing a very weird issue. I transferred some music from my computer (Win7 Pro) to my S7's SD card as I always have for all of my music. It took a ridiculously long time. When I unplugged, PowerAmp (my music player) failed to see not only the new files, but any of the files on the SD. And the phone no longer recognized that there was an SD card in there at all.

I took out the SD and tried it in my computer, and the thing seemed to be bad. Windows gave it nothing but errors, couldn't re-format it, and sometimes couldn't see it at all. Okay. Dead SD perhaps.

So I tried another, put it in my phone, and the phone took a while to recognize it. I formatted it right in the phone, and thought I was good to go. I transferred all of my music back, and now I'm getting the same issue. Sometimes, the phone sees the SD, sometimes it doesn't. (Right now, it's in the "doesn't" stage.)

Possibly two bad SDs? Sure. However... even music files that are saved on the phone itself (I keep all of my ringtones on the phone, as opposed to the SD), seem to be appearing and disappearing at random. I can't figure out why or what is going on.

I did several cache wipes through this experience, and they didn't seem to help. Funny thing is that when I restarted to do the cache wipes, for a few seconds I get a blue screen that says "Installing system update" and then shows a screen with an exclamation mark icon, under which is what looks like a dead Droid icon (has Xs over his eyes) before it brings me to the list where I can choose to wipe the cache, etc.

I haven't installed anything on my phone in days. My last system update was whenever the last one came out-- at least several weeks ago. Nothing else has changed, really. So I'm completely confused! Any ideas? What is going on?

Thank you so much for any advice!

What brand of sd card have you been using?
Have they been obtained from reliable suppliers, or cheap ebay sites?

I've heard of some issues with "non-starndard" sdcards, ie. cards other than GENUINE Sandisk and Samsung.
I only have ever used these 2 brands and have never had any issues.
I am currently using a Samsung Evo+128Gb with no problems at all.

Hey, @Hawker ... I've used (what I believe to be) good quality SDs. The first was a Samsung 32GB that came with the phone. The second was a SanDisk 32GB that I already had (used to use it in my Motorola Droid Turbo), which I bought as Best Buy if I recall properly.

I just bought a Samsung EVO+ 64GB from Best Buy yesterday, and so far, so good with it. No weird disappearing files or anything. I'm just going to keep on using my phone as normal and see how it reacts.
