The Official "I got my Note 7!" First Impressions Thread

SUCCESS!

I'm not sure what I did beyond rebooting it, but my Note 7 charged from 12% to 80% in 45 minutes. I'll consider that a fast charge! So glad I don't have to go through the mess of swapping it out. Now I can concentrate on the thousand things this phone can do - I'm sure I'll be exploring for days!

Best device I have owned to date. Wish it had front speakers like the MXPE, but the overall device rocks real hard.

Fast
Great battery life (even better in FHD mode)
Pen function much better
Sound from 3.5 jack and BT is great
Wiz is actually IMO designed well
The power saving options are fantastic
Display is amazing. Even FHD looks very good.
Does not run hot gaming and runs less warm in FHD
Signal reception is good
GPS connects fast
Camera great

BTW, the best case IMO is the Samsung smart case. Very functional and protects the display some without a screen protector.

I wanted a Note 7 anyway, and I was already committed to purchasing from Verizon because I saved my upgrade since February so I could apply it to this purchase. However, the 256 GB microSD was certainly eye-catching, and would have been a game changer anyway. That Verizon upgrade reduced my cost to $400. Subtracting the value of that microSD card ($250) that I would have needed anyway down the road, plus the $70 trade in I will receive from my ailing S5, and my total cost came to approximately $80 for a top of the line, latest tech smartphone.

When you start adding up the deals, and if you play it right, the cost savings make me buy through Verizon every time.

Doesn't your line go from $20 to $40 with new contract phone? I think true subsidized devices are gone now, unless you have some work related deal. Once your contract phone is done, your line drops $20 until you do another contact device.

Seems to make no sense now to do a contract, since either way you pay the same total. With a contract $480 over two years is on you line and committed two years.

I'm really confused about your complaints of scratches and pock marks. It appears to me that you haven't taken the cheap plastic packaging film off of your phone and complaining that it's not providing protection from the S-Pen. That is not screen protector quality and there's obviously lint beneath the film that you indicate are 'pock' marks outlined in the photos. I believe your expectations with this aspect of the phone are not justifiable.

wut

What is confusing? I even provided photos. The screen film that came on the front isn't on it because it had images on it and I couldn't leave it on. With it, I might have the minimal protection others have. I left the protective film on the back.

There's fuzz on the screen that's only visible when camera flash is used, yes. But the marks (that I called pocks) I'm specifically noting are fully textured indentations into the glass.

Considering there's no factory film on it, your assumptions that I have any expectations of protection from said film make no sense.

My dilemma was that I am on Verizon's unlimited plan and I couldn't buy with a 2 year contract anymore unless I wanted to cancel my unlimited plan. Fortunately, I could still finance a new phone and keep unlimited, which is what I did. If not for the promotions being offered by Samsung, I'd probably go with a different brand as Samsung has been growing a little long in the tooth for me. I was almost considering going back to an HTC device or an LG, but their flagship devices just aren't as slick. I even contemplated going back to the darkside (iPhone). If you aren't going to cash in on the Samsung promotions, I would just wait for the next flagship device to come out.

No harm no foul since contract or not, you pay the same total. With two year, you pay $480 over two years rather than paying $36 a month for two years paying full price. The irony is you are paying the same total cost either way.

Could be manufacturing defect. Given the display yields from a sheet of glass, there might dozens or over a hundred more.

If I do that, it would naturally charge a little faster, because with no apps and all the radios off the battery isn't being taxed at all... so I wouldn't consider that a real-world test. If fast charge is rated to charge a fully loaded and functional device within an hour, then it should be able to do that. I'll leave it off the charger all day, run it down, and try it this evening. If it fails to fast charge, I'll reset it and give it back to Sam's Club in the morning.

I know where you are coming from. I'm frustrated, along with you. I want the Note 7 to be a real winner, I haven't TOTALLY written off getting one. Injustice Edition anyone????? but I'm keeping my options open until the fall/winter phone lineups are fully revealed.

It sounded like initially it was not quick charging at all. My train of thought is to start over from square one and ensure base functionality thoroughly. The experiment needs a control. A neutral floating point to begin working from.
If it won't quick charge, period, then you have identified a fairly serious problem and a strict conclusion can be drawn.
If you can get it to quick charge, then slowly add more and more incremental load to it to fully test the thing.

Your initial set up troubled me. It sounded like it got fully activated on accident(not your fault). I wouldn't be very happy about that, and maybe the phone was not either? (never really got an initial good charged in?) Then pile on all the back up data and umpteen Play Store downloads and updates. Things can get pretty tangled up really quickly.

SUCCESS!

Yay, I hope that it keeps up!

I think that $40 is the baseline amount you pay for using a smartphone. If I were to use a flip phone, it would be $20 for the line.

Unless we're talking about different things?

So I have had mine now for about 36 hours and Love it! I am not disappointed. I am also glad I went with the Blue, it looks awesome (I was not able to see it in person).

The only issue I had was with changing notifications in Hangouts. Turns out that I had to enable Hangouts to read the Storage in permissions so it ended up being a Marshmallow thing and not a N7 thing.

Enjoying my Note 7 so far. It seems that battery life is better than my note 5. Of course, it's early, but things are looking good. :)

I still would have rather Samsung launched the phone 1-3 weeks later and have had 7.0 on it, but... :shrugs: gotta beat Apple out the door I suppose.
Received my e-mail that my paperwork was approved for the memory card. :)

Overall, I like this version a lot more than I did the Note 5. Now, trying to find a screen protector that actually fits/works, that's another question. Haven't found one that works so far.

Actually the line access changes according to whether you are on contract or month to month. Those who chose the "subsidized plan" would pay a line access fee of $40 while those who chose to finance the phone or pay for it outright therefore staying month-to-month would pay a $15 to $20 line access fee depending on their plan. That is according to several VZW reps I have spoken with. Corporate discounts notwithstanding.

I finally got a chance to stop at Verizon and check this Note 7 out.

Truthfully, as a person who really doesn't need to get a new phone, I was not WOW'd by this issue at all. I made sure to play around on it for about 20 minutes and it just didn't tickle me whatsoever. I actually don't like it's tall slim proportion. It makes the screen look so ultra wide format.

The grip ergonomics of holding the phone felt a little too petite but I have big hands. I bet I would have liked holding it more with a Spigen TPU case on it to give a bit of bulk.

The display, although crisp, was short of spectacular when comparing with my NOTE 3 in side by side videos (plus I have a slightly blemished screen protector on it that I had to account for lesser quality).

The showroom had the silver/brushed chrome model which was an absolute fingerprint magnet. It looked like it jumped off stage into a mosh pit at a punk rock concert and went around the entire stadium of 20,000.

My greatest dislike is that speaker. What an awful mickey mouse tinny sound. Makes my Note 3 speaker sound like a JBL sound system. That alone would make me not buy this time around. Glad I didn't waste time with a pre-order on it. Long live my flawless Note 3! I'm betting that Samsung rolls out a real game changer on the next round.

Overall, this Note 7 is in a class by itself when made the rounds to check out the other brand phones at the Big V.

I like how you incorporated this classic! The beginning of his appearance is a good reminder to never shake his hand should we ever cross paths! :D

I apologize then, but those photos have such an opaque appearance that just screamed film protection. I should've laced into the screen with the S-Pen on the Verizon test phone to see if it did what you have experienced. Maybe yours didn't cure properly or you have the Beta Baboon Glass.
