I bought my phone unlocked, it was a tmobile but I put it on AT&T. I tried king root and that didn't work. One click root said my device is unrootable. Is this true or is there a method out there? I have a lg g3 d851 on marshmellow 6.0

You'll have to downgrade to zv8 (Lollipop) to root. Afaik anything after zvC is unrootable. Once you get rooted,you can install TWRP with Flashify. Then i would recommend Fulmics 6 ROM. I'm running and it's great! It's marshmallow, and my variant doesn't even have marshmallow.
