Well, we had to have SOME place around here to discuss it! :)

Anyway, I just got a shipping notification from Samsung... my Gear VR is on the way, and my Gear 360 is on the way from Amazon. I look forward to testing out the VR capabilities of the Note 7!

I had the VR on the Note 4 and am a little nervous about buying it for the Note 7. It was a great device on my Note 4, but it would overheat the device after only 10-20 minutes. I don't want to subject my Note 7 to that kind of stress just yet. Granted, I guess I could fall back on the 1 year warranty, but if the new VR is like it was for the Note 4, there's a disclaimer that states they know the device overheats and don't cover warranties if you do not adhere to the overheating warning during use. Not sure how they can tell that you didn't heed the warning unless they're just going to deny all claims where overheating is the issue.

I'll wait to see how everyone else's experience is with the VR on the Note 7 before I plunk down another $100.

I'll let you know. I generally don't engage in VR for hours on end (I simply don't have the time), but I'll let everyone here know if there are significant heating issues during short-term use.

I'm not sure if you had the VR for a previous model, but there was a very cool movie trailer of Transformers (the last one) and even though I absolutely loathe the Transformer movie franchise under Michael Bay, there was a 3D trailer that was absolutely stunning. After showing 2 people that trailer, the phone would overheat. I'd keep the cover off of the VR (that covers the phone) and would place a fan directly on it. The only problem is with VR, moving the headset around is the main point of the device. I actually caught a CNN Democratic Primary debate on it once, and while CNN decided to use VHS quality video, it was still pretty cool. You can get semi-similar results by just viewing 360 videos from Youtube https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=360+video Granted, it's not nearly as immersive as the VR headset.

I would like to know if the Note 7 still overheats with the new VR headset. My S7 Edge would overheat and shutdown on the VR headset. I ended up doing a factory data reset on it and the overheating improved. I would still feel the phone getting hot but no longer overheats. I have now an extra VR headset since it won't be compatible to my Note 7 :(

I ordered the VR headset for my N7 - it will be here tomorrow. I have one for my N4 and yes the main problem is overheating. I not only left the cover off the VR headset, but I took the back off of my N4 (I used a little electrical tape on 3 sides to keep the battery from falling out since the back was off. I also would put my N4 in the freezer for about 10 minutes before I used it in my VR headset. Doing all of that I could eek out about 30 minutes before the N4 would overheat. I am really hoping this issue is not nearly as bad on the N7. I will know soon and report back my experience.

OK I had the White VR head set and used it with my S6 Edge + it used to heat the phone up and burn the battery down in no time.

I never went more then an hour on it and usually not close to that.

Got my Note 7 and got the new black VR Gear (Blue whatever it F'ing looks black to me) and first it is way more comfortable in the way of eye strain and things look better. The first time I used it, I ended up going nearly 2 hours with it and it my phone felt a little warm but nothing like the Edge 6+ used to feel on the old unit. I actually felt comfortable for that whole time.

Now when I noticed the new unit had a pass through for a USB connector so that you could plug the unit into a charger and it would keep the phone charged up and I thought Yeah right that would surely burn the phone up because I remember how hot my S6 Edge + would get. Now I think I would not need it because I can easily get two hours and only burn like 20% of the battery up and it isn't that hot.

I jut got my Gear VR in the mail and I can hardly wait to try it out! :D

EDIT: Okay folks, after setting up the requisite files and such, I put on the headset and took a little test drive. MUCH nicer than the Innovator Edition. The field of view is amazing... and I don't know if they improved the optics or what, but I find the notorious "screen door effect" to be minimal, if noticeable at all. There is enough room for me AND my glasses in there! YAYYY!

I tried out my skills as a B-24 tailgunner in Bandit Six and was very impressed with the headset's performance. Everything was very accurate, the sense of immersion in another time and space was very thorough.

I did notice the USB port along the bottom, probably for charging... although I would be delighted to learn that I could do screen captures by attaching the headset to a PC through that port. Any thoughts?

If you haven't played around with virtual reality before, I cannot recommend this (and a good Bluetooth stereo headset) highly enough!

:)

lol, you bought the camera too? I don't know how good I'd expect the quality of the camera to be. It typically takes a good year or so for consumer grade cameras to catch up to what is available commercially. I'd like to see one of those 360 cams connected to a drone....that would be sweet.
