Fast Charge

I'm in Europe and my Note7 wont arrive for anther week. However I'm confused about fast charging, I know that any charger will work, but I notice d that the Samsung charge pad uses usb type B, can I therefor use my old usb type B charger to run it or will I need the fast charger? I also have a 2 amp adaptive charger if that will work?

It's actually a USB type C

They have a micro USB to USB C adapter, but it doesn't work for a few devices that I've posted about a few threads down.

No you misunderstand, the Samsung charge pad uses usb B to connect to the mains.

Ok, you mean the actual charging pad and not the charging for the phone. I would say it has more to do with what is required of the charging pad than what it has to do with the phone itself (I was mostly thrown off as I thought you meant a cable directly to the phone).

Do you use the charging pad for fast charging any other devices right now? If you do then you can always check the cable with those devices. My guess is that you'll get the same results with the Note 7. I know I have a bunch of old micro USB cables that I bought on Amazon that do not allow for fast charging even when connected to a fast charging wall connection.

I'd do a search for that particular charging pad to see if it requires a specific gauge of USB cable to work correctly. Also, Samsung makes a fast charger charging pad and a regular charger charging pad. Make sure you don't have the regular charging pad as it won't matter too much what USB cable you use on it (unless it's like those cheap Amazon cables that I bought).

OK. I'll attempt to answer my own question. As I read it, my 5v 2Amp travel charger will work with the fast charge pad but will only provide regular charge. Fast charging comes only with fast charge EP-TA20 series adaptors, 9v 1.67Amp.

Instead of creating a whole new thread, I decided to post here about the Samsung Wireless Fast Charger stand, Model EP-NG930. It's got two fatal flaws that render it unusable to me.

First, the lip that the phone rests on is so small, and the Note 7 edges so rounded, that the phone is always in danger of sliding right off of it. One would have to be very careful to perfectly balance the phone on it, and then gingerly remove it... otherwise, gravity takes over and the phone heads south in a hurry.

Second, it may be "fast charge" but the electromagnetic field is so weak that it will not penetrate my (not very thick) Spigen Wallet S portfolio case to charge the phone. I have tried the Samsung charger, an Itian wireless fast charging stand, and even my old Tylt Vu charging stand. And I get a charge, in the case, from all but the Samsung charger.

Stylish? Yes. But I am not going to remove my phone from the case every time I want to charge it. Since I bought it on eBay, I really can't return it... so I'll be selling it. If you're considering the Samsung charger, be advised that there are far better alternatives out there.

Thanks for the heads up Chief but I've already bought a Samsung fast charge pad, only mine doesn't have a stand so it'll have to lay flat.

I too bought the Samsung charging stand and it works fine with my note 7 in its case. But then my phone case is a thin TPU case with a very grippy bumper edge from Ringke. It clings right to that skinny ledge!

My results are just like koki's, granted I have the Otterbox Symmetry case on it. No problems with charging and the phone sits securely on the stand. I also have it sitting vertically on the charger with no issues. I suspect it'll hold up just as well horizontally. I'm not sure how fast it'll charge, but I'll post back some results. I started it just now at 71% and will post up when it reaches 100%.

Just now hit 100%, but it sure took a while initially. I'm not sure if my Otterbox case was inhibiting the charge because after I took the case off, it shot from 74% to 100%.

it looks like the Note 7 owner was using a third-party microUSB charger rather than the charger and cable supplied by Samsung, so that may have played a part in the incident. Samsung’s new Galaxy Note 7 ships with a white charger and USB cable, but the user in this case has a black cable that he is using with Samsung’s included USB-C adapter tip.

The instructions with my Note and with my charging stand both say to only use the cord and adapter that came with them. Guess this is why.

Based on the article, it looks it could possible be a Chinese knockoff on the Note 7? Not dismissing anything, just speculating is all..

Found a qualcomm quick charge certified car charger on amazon, which includes the same spec USB C charging cable that came with my Note 7, so will update on how it works when it arrives.

Yes, the micro USB or type C makes no difference when your using a charging pad, if its a "fast charging pad" and you have a fast charging cable... the phone will charge fast, at least my Note 7 does and i have about 5 fast charging pads still hooked to my old micro USB cables...

I have a couple of battery packs that I can carry around with me, but I'd rather not. The Note 7's battery charges very fast with the Fast charger that I can't see needing a battery pack. I'd rather just carry around the Samsung quick charge and plug in whenever necessary.

I will say that the Note 7's battery drains quite fast. I generally get down to about 70% battery life by around noon if I have 100% at 8am. My guess is that Samsung would rather go ahead and design the battery to quickly charge than to last a long time, which is fine by me, if it doesn't mean the battery degrades faster, especially given that the Note's battery isn't removable.

With the Samsung fast charging, the amperage is not what to look for to see if it is truly a fast charger. Samsung Fast chargers have a 9 vdc output instead of the 5 vdc of the standard USB. The other suggestions I would have is not to use a cheap cord because not all USB cords are created equal(can't handle the amperage at 9 vdc). If you have a true Samsung fast charger and you have your phone setting for fast charge turned on and your phone is not fast charging I have only found 2 things that will cause it, One is a cheap USB cable and the other is if you have power saving mode turned on. Your pull down menu will tell you whether your phone is fast charging or not. Hope this helps.

I now have 3 of these chargers! 1 in the living room, 1 in the bedroom and got one for the GF who has a Galaxy S7. I love them. Charges my note 5 & 7 right thru the neoprene case. Does portrait and landscape. I hope my phone doesn't get recalled. I'm tweaking it just the way i want it...
