Best Way To Run Android Apps On Windows?

I'm confused about how to do this.

What I want to accomplish is to transfer the entire contents of my Android tablet to my Windows 7 laptop so I can:

1. Safely back up all of the apps and app data on my tablet to the laptop and;
2. Run all the apps that are on the tablet on the laptop too.

I don't necessarily need to be able to synchronize the tablet and laptop in #2. Just want to be able to transfer everything on the tablet to the laptop one time and then be able to use whatever was transferred on the laptop (unsynchronized).

I know I need an Android emulator and there will probably be differences of opinion here as to which one is the best. But part of what is confusing is that they all seem to be made primarily for running Android games. I am not interested in the games, I need this to use a lot of different non-game apps. I can't find much information about whether or not there are emulators that work well with (or even specialize in) non-game apps.

Maybe it doesn't make any difference and the game emulators all work well with normal apps? I just am not sure.

I don't have much else but apps and app data on my tablet. I don't use it to keep contact info, a calendar, etc. (except I use google apps to do email and google related apps like calendars). But I don't store any of that stuff on the tablet, it's all on google. I only use the tablet for running apps. So my main interest is being able to back up those apps and their data safely and being able to also run those apps on my laptop.

I would appreciate advice from anyone who can give me their opinion of what is the best emulator to use for this and what is the best way to backup all of my apps and data to my laptop so that I don't have to worry if my tablet dies. Thanks for any help!

There are so many routes to go about this...
When you say "everything" on the tablet, to differentiate between the numerous methods I need to know what exactly your trying to backup. All you need most of the time is to plug in via USB or Wirelessly transfer on same network. On second glance you did sort of explain. So, number one best backup app is going to be Titanium Backup Pro IMHO. It backs up a copy of the .apk (not truly needed in most cases) as well as the applications data (sounds like this is your concern). As you wrote , Google stores contacts and calendar etc. If not games, what apps ? The data backup isn't an issue but not every app is compatible with emulators. My recommendation is to setup a virtual machine running Android x86. Choose the newest version of Android and mostly everything should run.

Last side note, I forgot that most likely your tab has external sd card....
And/or if you own an external usb hard drive for important data , with a tiny cheap Micro to A Female adapter called USB OTG will plug into your charging port and allow the hard drive usb cable to plug into tablet. Makes for very simple file transfer. Good luck.

Thank you for your reply. Have not gotten to it yet, but that sounds like a good plan. I do have a couple of questions though.

1. Suppose I want to store the backup made by Titanium Backup Pro on an external HDD, or burn it to a DVD or something like that. Exactly what file(s) do I have to copy from the backup created by TBP to the storage device to ensure that I have everything I need in a way that it can later be fully restored to the Android device (or another Android device) if needed?

2. You can "image" a hard drive that has say Windows on it and the image will consist of a single file. The image file will include the entire contents of the drive including OS, and all data. Later you can restore that single image file and the device will be exactly as it was at the time it was imaged. Every single thing that was on the drive will be restored.

I'm confused about how a typical Android tablet works with regard to this same kind of process. Is there such a thing as a single image file that can be created and later restored? (I don't think so but why not?)

The bottom line is that I want to be able to backup my Android tablet so that in the event I need to completely restore all the apps and data to the current tablet, or in the event that I lose the tablet or it stops working I can restore all the apps and data to a new Android tablet. The concept I am looking for is the same as the single file "imaging" you can do on say a Windows laptop even if it can't be done with a single file.

Thanks again for the great help!
