i personally use go launcher ex.its realitively fast for all the options it has.as for apps on a homescreen i guess is to preference.i dont do apps on a homescreen just like i dont do shortcuts on my laptop.the app drawer button is where i find all my apps and i just set them in alphabetical order and search if i have to.having apps on homescreens too cluttered imho and it takes up more resources as well.not alot but if you have hundreds of apps all on homescreen it can lag.or at least it does on my phone.course my phones an htc one sv boost version lol but highly modified for performance as well.beauty of android phones though or tablets is the ability to customize.if you dont like something you can always uninstall what you put on there, well except for my modified version.i could delete but that takes a bit more inner workings as i locked them into system apps.have fun guy,and welcome to the world of androids beep boop beep ;P

If you think Go Launcher is fast for it's options, Nova is much faster for just the same thing. Plus way better image/icon rendering.

And what's the differences among them, apps, launchers, units.:mustachedroid:

I don't get the question?
But, the differences in launchers is what they focus on, for one.

I like aviate because it simplifies my phone, has cards that reminds me of HTC blinkfeed (but you have to swipe to see), and adjusts to your area (home/work).

Below pic will help me explain. The white time tab bar at the top is not on mine.

The center pic is the home screen. Add widgets or whatever (adjusting widget placement sucks).

Left screen is what you can swipe to, to show "blinkfeed"/cards and it adjusts to your location and time.
-will give me a morning news feed in the a.m. at home that I read on my daily toilet time.
-will give me weather, traffic, events when I leave
-at work right now, it gives me weather/forecast, upcoming events, and the news was moved down.

Right screen is what I enjoy the most. It's basically a somewhat expanded folder providing ease of app selection.
-I travel a lot for work, so when I'm on travel I simply move my "travelling" (Delta, Marriott, Maps, Avis, Taxi, Uber, etc), "finance" (bank, credit cards, etc), and "entertainment" (media for flights and trains) up in the list. You can add and edit the collections of apps. I'm obviously not travelling now so I have time to waste explaining this. LOL. It doesn't really save you clicks, but it does save you time with searching/scrolling for an app and switching between.
-Swipe again from right to left from here and all apps are alphabetized.

Go Launcher focuses on complete customization and adding the "gimmicky" options your specific phone may not have included (like the Samsung edge swipe in screen).
-change the sizes and amount of icons, keyboard, number of screens, animations, folders, theme ... everything.
A simple "go launcher" search in the play store shows you how much customization is possible with this launcher.

Others can focus almost completely on looks. Make it crazy and futuristic looking or close to stock. I've tried a few but have only stuck with Go, and for the last few years; Aviate. I cannot really speak much on others.
It's a mix of customization and optimization. It's up to you what you want; 60% c /40% o, 50/50, etc. Aviate is about 10% customization 90 optimization. Vice versa for Go.

That was my issue with go launcher!
Yeah, they have plenty of updates to plenty of "go products", but sometimes they don't mesh well together. I would have to wait for an update to fix an update, then something else would be updated and ruin the update that fixed the update.

It's been years since I went to Aviate so maybe they fixed their system.

um,widgets are also a part of the launcher?
Some widgets are only available on the stock launcher or sometimes 3rd party launchers will have widgets that are only available on their launcher but for the most part most widgets will work with most launchers.
Each widget is an extension to the app it corresponds with.
Widgets aren't necessarily part of the launcher but you can't access them without one either......
