T-Mobile Device Unlock App

Most here w/relatively new T-Mobile devices have seen this app:

Just a BTW,in case you are interested in (SIM) unlocking your device:
You will need to be on stock firmware in order for this to work.
I found this out 1st hand,& had to revert back to stock on my HTC 10.
For all you HTC users who root/ROM,I didn't have to revert all the way back to factory,I still had the bootloader unlocked/S-Off & TWRP installed, but,on the stock-unrooted ROM.
Once complete w/the Device Unlock,I re-rooted & restored my ROM of choice.
To a majority of users, this is a non-issue,most in the GP don't root/ROM,just wanted to save those who do the aggravation of attempting to unlock on a modified non-stock firmware.

I'm guessing this applies to other mfgs w/the same Device Unlock app,IDK,YMMV,but,I suspect it's the same across all devices w/this app on-board.

Sorry, I should say that it's a G900T Galaxy S5. Just wondering since I am not a current T-Mobile customer and I plan on using it with Ting.
Ting user here - you don't have to unlock a T-Mobile phone to use it on their GSM network.

They use T-Mobile towers so it should work fine even if still locked to T-Mobile. If it was an AT&T phone you'd have to unlock it before activating on Ting.

Oh, that makes sense! My husband informed me later that was why he was looking at Ting. I'd still like to unlock the phone, however as I still have time left with Airvoice Wireless. It arrived today and is very nice.

As far as I can tell, the unlock app does not come with the S5. I called T-Mobile to find out if I could unlock and the very nice tech support person said they couldn't do it unless it was associated with an account...any account. So he advised I find a friend that uses T-Mobile. Perhaps I will, but probably not before the Ting sims arrive.

T-Mobile only lets each account unlock 2 phones a year, so check with your friends if that's OK in case they want to unlock their own phones. :thumbsupdroid:

Hope it works out :)
