hi all. i got a new sm-G900a (att) for free after renewing my 2 year contract with att.
Im very happy with the phone. i did the ota update to lollipop. im now currently downloading the stock firmware for 4.4+ from sam mobile because i might down grade to kitkat so i can root.

my question is is there cwm for the sm-g900a?
is the bootloader locked or unlocked, if its locked, is a way to unlock bootloader being worked on?

is there any custom roms for the sm-g900a?

Hello and welcome to Android Forums agentofshield :)

The bootloader on the AT&T model of the Galaxy S5, G900A, is indeed, heavily, locked down and does not allow the installation of CWM custom recovery. See, [RECOVERY][UNOFFICIAL] CWM Recovery for the Samsung Galaxy S5. It also does not allow the installation of AOSP ROMs, only TouchWiz based one's. thanks for the replay. i been reading alot on rooting the att s5, and im not sure if i should go ahead and do so because i don't know how current the guides are or if the methods still work. one forum mention safestrap and an other said safestrap does not work anymore. there is indeed roms for the att s5 but the directions are complex and involve several several steps. i think i just might leave the phone the way it is. this phone is too expensive to risk bricking plus my wife will kill me. all i wanted to do is get rid of touch wiz, but i guess i will deal with it. Thanks

This also helped me answer my question. I have the same phone but it'd unlocked for metro pcs. I'm guessing the same applies to me even if the device is unlocked?

Yes, it does. Carrier unlocking and rooting are different things. AT&T have their own locked down bootloader which now, on the latest Lollipop firmwares, cannot even be downgraded or rooted at all. See #1.6 of 41 Galaxy S5 models - Dummies Guide
