From N7 to S7/S7 edge

Hi all,
I figured I would start a thread for us former Note 7 users forced to return the unit and chose to go with the S7/S7 edge and to either vent or praise the feature and performance comparisons. For me, I loved that N7 and am still pissed off at the whole thing! So far I'm dealing with the S7 edge and it's not a bad phone at all. It really has a lot of the same as the N7. I did notice the screen size difference even though it's only a .2" difference. I also noticed that the Always on Display was not quite as detailed, but that's not a big deal. I mainly switched to this because of the VR and didn't want to go to the N5. I guess overall I'm becoming used to this phone but will definitely get the next version of the Note line, or whatever it will be because I like the S-pen features.

Thoughts?

Well I got mine 5 hours ago. Got everything set up, but it's got a defective internal speaker, so when I talk on the phone, people sound very quiet and staticy, almost as if they're talking through a plastic bag. Speaker phone works fine, but the regular earpiece speaker is blown. So I can keep this phone through the weekend and just use BT or speaker when making calls. VZW is sending me a replacement and I'll have that on Tuesday.

That means that since Sept. I've switched from Note5 to Note7 to Note5 to Note7 to S7 edge to S7 edge. (4 transfers so far, and one more to go) This kind of stuff is fun every couple years, not every couple weeks.

Other than all that BS, from what I can tell so far, this phone IS pretty close to the Note7... but it's not THE Note7. :(

really not many differences other than the loss of the S-Pen, and the comfort of the design. The Note7 felt better to hold. More symmetry, more weight, and the corners weren't as rounded as the S7 edge.

What's funny, is now the tables have turned regarding content scaling. On the Note7's VZW had this feature, and T-Mo took the feature away. On the S7 edge, T-Mo has the option, but it's not on my VZW. So some of my content is bigger than I'd prefer, but luckily I use Nova Launcher, and custom Icon packs, so I'm able to adjust some of that down.

Now that the AOD got it's update, we're allowed to upload custom images again, and for the standard clock option, we can now select a color to use for the time, and also more background images have been added. Not sure if it's added the complexity of the notifications as I haven't had many notifications come up yet.

I use my phone through a business account at my work, so I signed up for just a 1 year contract this time instead of the usual 2 years that we normally get. This way, I'll be set to upgrade next Sept/Oct to whatever the next Note series will be (if any).

I agree with you on everything. I'm not as pissed as I am sad over this whole ordeal. I know I'll like the S7 edge very much, but I'll still miss the Note all the way.

I was a loyal iphone user for the last 7 years-the Note 7 lured me to switch just out of the blue realky, i saw it one day and was like wow, that looks kind of nice actually. Did a little research & bought it a couple days later :) i LOVED it, it was amazing. Im hoping for a Note 8.

Chose the S7 Edge when i had to return the Note, i aaalmost went back to iphone but i just had gotten bored with it, i like all the features the Note/S7 have. I miss the Spen a lot, i used it every day. Like others said, miss the weight feel and shape of it too-i just miss it. I mean this isnt a bad phone, and its got the identical camera which i love, but i miss my Note!

Still debating getting a Note 5. Do you think i would be disappointed if i did? Is it a lot different than the 7? Is the camera a big step down? If anyone could answer id appreciate it. :)

May I ask what all you did with your Spen? I had the Note 5 for a year before I switched to the 7 so I didn't want to necessarily go back to last year's phone so I decided to give the 7 Edge a try. I already know I like the Note 5 so if the 7 Edge doesn't work for me I'll give it up in the 14 days. Honestly, I use the pen to circle on pictures and make notes that way and I can do that with my finger so I jut downloaded The s note app and add ons and I'm all set. I think I'll be happy with that until we get our Galaxy 8 Pro (I predict they replace Note with the word Pro... Haha) next summer. I hope anyway.

The camera is much better on the 7 series and I think you'd miss that going to the Note 5.

Update after using the S7 edge for a few days... I do like it. It does actually seem a little faster than the Note7 when coming to on screen processing, and surfing through web pages, and all around scrolling. It's definitely a nice phone, but I still just like the look and feel of the Note better.

The AOD has received an update, and now looks like the AOD on the Note, except it only shows missed calls, and texts. Doesn't show any other notifications, whereas the Note showed even game notifications.

I miss the S-Pen here and there, but it isn't something I can't live without.

I haven't really done much customizing on this phone as I'll be receiving a replacement tomorrow. (details in my previous post above)

All in all, this is a good phone, and I'll be happy with it until the next phablet comes out.

I got both in my possession right now and I played the exact same file on both phones at the same time with brightness turned all the way up. And it's clear as day that the Note 7 screen is just so MAGNIFICENT even though the S7 Edge is great too.

I have my S7 edge now. And it's all set up just a few apps to sort out. I do like this so far. I'm surprised I noticed the screen size difference but I think I'll get used to that. It's got a lot of the same functionality which is nice. Glad AOD has been updated. I miss the swipe functions to change camera mode but I'm not a huge photographer so it's no big deal.. The menu layout on the n7 felt nicer. But over all I'm happy with my decision. This does feel a fast, smaller version of the n7. Glad the saga is over and can relax now.

Glad to see you finally got it. I'm enjoying mine so far, but as I mentioned, I will be going back to the Note/whatever series when the next is released. I'll bet your glad this is behind you now...I know I am. What a mess! Enjoy.

Oh I'm very glad this is behind me. I'll relax when I get the monetary difference between the two phones refunded but I figure that could take an extra week. Like you I'll be straight back to the note whenever the next one arrives.. One bad experience doesn't detract from a fantastic phone. I'm on the lookout for a nice cover for this one and will enjoy being able to relax with it safe in the knowledge it's not gonna blow up or go back.

Yep. Miss my Note 7. I had had 3 by the time I eventually had to hand back. I went with the S7 Edge as it was closest to the Note and I got about £130 back.

Got my S7 Edge pretty much set up the same. The only thing missing is Grace UI and that Grace notification which I liked.

I have been told that when Samsung update to Android 7 they will shove on Grave UI. Hopefully that will be the case.

When the new Note or whatever they will call and hopefully even make it (crosses fingers) comes out, will everyone be waiting a month or so to purchase to see if any fall back happens? So skeptical now I feel like I'll wait around a bit to see...

I know I should wait... but I have out of control impulse, so I'll probably pre-order the instant it becomes available. :D

I would speculate that Samsung will learn a lot from the N7 tragedy, and that the next phone will be one of the safest ones around. (I can't back that up, just pure hope and assumption)

That's what I'm hoping. I too get over excited and I really want the Note back. I would seriously doubt this disaster would happen again.

Funny thing is, I never buy a phone right out of the gate until the N7, when I walked in to check it out that 1st week, I had my N4 and was thinking that I would go with the N7 in a month or 2, I also am quite superstitious and don't like odd numbers, I had the 2, then 4, and this was supposed to be the 6....anyhow, I was playing with it and was like WOW, then I told the sales guy I don't like odd numbers and he said "Well....it is lucky 7." So, I said, lets do it.....and the rest of the story you know.....NEVER AGAIN! I will get the next Note, but will wait a bit.

I had the Note 4 also when I got the Note 7 and was just looking but there was such a big difference I got it anyway. I've waited as long as 5 months before going for a new phone most times. Darn number 7. I think it's a smart thing to wait. I imagine that's the consensus at this point. Guess will wait to see what they'll do...

The note 7 was my first ever early adopter phone. Usually I wait til my upgrade and get what I can.. When the next note (or whatever it's called) comes out I'd love to do it again as I'm earning the money to treat myself now.. But I won't rush into any decisions I'll wait and see what Samsung plan and maybe give it a little time just to be safe.. I do the same with games consoles never buy immediately I always wait. The note 7 was just special..

I waited 3 years to go from a Note3 to the Note7 and I miss my sweet phone even now. I sent it back last month and just got part of my refund yesterday from Verizon ($269.76). The rest is supposed to be applied to my account to pay off my new S7 which I finally picked up on Monday from Target with a bonus $200 Target gift card and 256 GB SD card offer from Samsung. While it is a fine phone and I am sure I will be happy enough with it, as soon as the Note 8 is available for pre-order under whatever name I am there.
