Official GSM Hero 2.1 Thread

Yeah Rooting is the way forward, i've not regretted rooting my GSM Hero.
Fresh & Damage control are for the Sprint Hero's arn't they??

2.2 will be here soon, looking forward to giving that a wurl.

Yeah suppose you are right.

Even if we wait until they release 2.1 for hero we will soon have to root it to get 2.2..

Actually i have heard that htc has a formula for the 2.1 upgrade release date.

This is the formula to calculate when 2.1 will be released.

Current date + 1 month = Most likely date.

Please recalculate release date using the formula whenever you get within a few days of the previously calculated date to get the most accurate date...

Well I thought I would contact HTC direct and see what they reply in reference to the update and here was there reply in an email to me

New Response
Hi, I’m Caylen, and I’ll be glad to assist you today. Before releasing a ROM update
we have to be sure that the software is going to work properly on your hardware
and on your carrier’s network. This testing does take some time but will result in
an update that is optimized to work on your device and on your carrier’s network.
While we want to release software as soon as we can we will only do so once the
software has passed our quality standards. At this time we do not have any
information about an update for your device. When the update is released it will
be announced on HTC.com. Thank you for contacting HTC America Technical
Support. Please feel free to contact us again if you have any future questions.

@Don (&HTC)

Just to make this perfectly clear ...

If HTC once again pushes back their allready ridiciolously late release date of june i hereby solemny swear that i will never again buy or even own another HTC phone.

I only know of 2 companies that have had a similar relationship to their costumers with regards to updates and shockingly they are both out of business today.

A company that cannot deliver what it promises and delays a promised software release for more than 6 months in the phone industry is as dead as a doorknob...In this business 6 months is ALOT of time and i bet people will grow tired of buying phones without updates real fast.

Unless offcourse they think that people will just discard their phone in 6 months and pay for a new phone just to get a never firmware.....HTC....It aint going to happen.

Just for comparison....My colleagues Nokia 5800 is of same age as the Hero or even older and it has had atlease 2-3 updates since december.

So I have looked and looked and looked, but have not found ANY review of this leaked finalized Sprint rom.. I can't use it cause I am on Cell South, and the only thing I have read is that:
1. it looks official
2. the motion backgrounds are not in it (sucks but would just make it slow anyways)
3. it does not include some social media app/widget (that we could probably download a better one for anyways)

I am curious what is in and left out and why, because I am sure once us CS customers finally see the update on our side of the hill, it will be the exact same rom but with CS settings.. oh and a text message to CS app :p

***oh and sorry for the excessive cursing on the earlier post admin.***

Am I the only one who thinks it is pretty strange that Sprint apparently are pretty close to releasing a 2.1 ROM that must be the 2.1 ROM from HTC + some Sprint specific modifications, but still HTC says "MAYBE Hero will get the 2.1 update in june". If the update has been released to Sprint for further "enhancement", then why can't HTC release it to regular Hero handsets now as well?

Androidworld.nl, a Dutch website on Android, yesterday published an article about a meeting they had with HTC (original article here). They asked Mark Moons, regional manager for the BeNeLux, about the delays on the Hero 2.1 rollout. He explained that the update is being tested right now and "it won't be weeks now before it's offered OTA".

The reason the update is delayed is rather stupid: "HTC assigned a specific sku (some kind of identification number) per country for the Hero. The update must be tested and approved by google, for each sku individually. This results in a long delay before getting an OK on the update".

Apparently, the other HTC phones have a single SKU per type, not per country.

Mark also mentions there won't be any updates for the G1, Magic and Tattoo devices.

Take it for what it's worth!

Wow that sucks...

Oh well, cheers to the rooters for those phones I guess :X

I have seen the 2.1 update in action on a friend's sprint phone. Hoping to see it on CS hero's soon. (wish it would happen before I go on vacation in two days!)

Also... Funny how they are still playing a blame game, instead of just giving an actual release date. Oh well. PR will be PR I guess.
