Root Rooting Motorola Droid Turbo 2

Have a droid turbo 2? Still on an unlimited data plan? While we are waiting for root access, I found a way to bypass the Hotspot subscription check. Probably eats the battery, but so far so good.
Do NOT turn phone off!
1)Go to Settings, turn Data off!
2) Use the tool and pop out the tray for the sd/sim card (probably not a good thing for the sim card to do this often)
3)Pull drop down, toggle Hotspot on,
4) Close sd/sim tray.
Wait until it is recognized by your pc and is connected to your phone
5)Then toggle Data back on.
This skipped the check for subscription
As long as you leave the phone on and Hotspot active it should stay active.
Been working on my phone for over an hour so far...
(Try at Your own risk, I am not responsible if you fry your phone, sim or sd card)
Your mileage may vary...

That's pretty cool but I'm on the new Verizon plan and have 14gb of data

To sum this up for everyone, what I am regrettably seeing is the bootloader is not unlockable and root access is not possible at this time.
Is that statement accurate?
If so, does anyone know if this will change?
Know if it will change? It will if somebody with the skill to root the phone has interest in trying to do so. I certainly don't have this knowledge.

(So, no, nobody knows if this will change. All you can do is hope. Unless you have or gain the knowledge to root the phone or break the bootloader.)

To be honest - if you want a phone that can be rooted, in the future NEVER buy a Droid brand phone. Buy a nexus or pay attention to the phones that have root vulnerabilities after they've been released.

There might be hope for root if/when Marshmallow is released for our phone. But until then, I highly doubt you'll see it.

To add to what doogald said, I think a phone is more likely to get root discovered if it's sold by all the big providers instead of just one provider. As you know, unfortunately, only Verizon Wireless sells the Droid Turbo 2.

I'm hoping so. I just read Verizon sent out their initial MM soak testing, maybe 48 hours or so ago. If that's true, it shouldn't be much longer before it's released to everyone.

Yes, we should all be getting Marshmallow (not sure if 6.0 or 6.0.1) very soon as Verizon rolls them out in waves. Unfortunately, I read on XDA that there was supposedly a root exploit in Lollipop that Marshmallow closes. :(

Like everybody else is feeling, I'm frustrated the bootloader cannot be unlocked. Yet.
I don't even know if this is possible any more, but a long time ago, we could do a stock flash back to a previous version of android, with known exploits, and obtain root access through that backdoor.
I know that's only a halfway solution. Obviously you still have a locked bootloader and an antiquated version of android, with no way to flash a custom ROM on there. Now, if there was a way to maintain the root access you *might* get from downgrading, and then somehow upgrade back to 5.1.1 or 6.0 that would be cool. It's an idea.
