My question has to do with the Hidden Cabinet. I do not remember enabling this feature, if I did I forgot the password.
I added a couple of test files to the cabinet (nothing important) and then attempted to open the cabinet.
I was unable to get past the PIN verification.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the app. What happens to the hidden cabinet ?
I do not see anywhere to "turn on" this feature, but selecting a file once again gives an option to "move to the hidden cabinet"

anybody have any idea? Can it be "reset" or can the files in there be deleted?

TIA for any info -
Dave

I use that one.

Until I set up the pin code it wouldn't give me the option to move anything there. As part of the process of setting it up the app requests an email to recover your password. Tap on Hidden Cabinet from the Home screen and and when on the Enter your PIN code screen tap the menu and then Forget password. If you set one up hopefully it sends you the password.

Thanks for the info. The device is a Tracfone Samsung Core Prime running KitKat (it is not rooted)

It seems as if I must have set up a PIN in the past and have forgotten the number. I had a small yellow notepad
where I wrote down all this kind of info, but the notepad has itself disappeared after we did a clean and reorganization
of our place!
As I mentioned, it seems even uninstalling and reinstalling the
app does not affect whether the hidden cabinet exists or not as far as the program behaves. I get an option to move
files to the cabinet even though I did not set it up in the second install.

I would have thought that if the app was uninstalled and there were contents in the hidden cabinet, the app would/should
ask you what to do with them - but that's another point.

Since I don't know my PIN, how can I proceed ?

Thanks for your further assistance. Here is a screenshot of what I see. How do I initiate a retrieval from here?

I believe AZgl1500 uses this app...
* File Manager ASUS - Android Apps on Google Play

if this is the app you are referring to ASUS File Manager, yes, I do indeed use this app every single day.
It is my favorite way to take a pic, and move it over to the PC in a heartbeat. It takes 5 minutes or more for the PC to load all the filenames if you use the USB method.

The latest pix/files are always first (optional) for me, and I can just pick off 1 or 3 and copy them to the Network pc/laptop.

The hidden File Cabinet? Don't recall ever seeing that.
I am looking right now in the app settings and do not see it mentioned. So, I think we are referring to a different app made by the same developer.

Anytime you talk about an app, please provide a link so that all of us can see what you are talking about.

Hidden file cabinet is on the Home screen, just scroll to the bottom.

It is even mentioned in the link you posted above on the pink graphic
I use this file manager and the Hidden Cabinet is definitely a feature of the App you are asking about and the one referenced in the Google Play link in a message above. However, I don't know how to recover access to the Hidden Cabinet. I set up my GMail account as the PIN retrieval email when I set up my PIN but an email never gets sent/received. I tried changing my PIN and reset up my GMail for recovery but still no joy. And you need to know your old PIN in order to set up a new PIN. I found a "help" file on Asus' web site for the File Manager App but there is no mention of the Hidden Cabinet there.

I really like this file manager but losing the PIN seems to be an impossible challenge.

I am back in business, PIN reset and access to old contents (turns out to be a 5mb PDF about the life of Edgar Allan Poe. I must have copied it there as a test and forgotten about it)

It does ask you for an email address when you set up the PIN, but i'm still not sure how you use it to request assistance.

I can PM anyone who would like further info

I solved this problem
Follow these instructions:

1. Connect your asus with laptop or pc
2. Open 'internal storage'
3. In the search bar type '.hiddencabinet'
4. Open the folder that uppear.
5. Find '.password' file THEN DELETE IT (after deleted, your hiddencabinet password will be reset)
6. In your asus smartphone open file manager and set up the hiddencabinet password.

It works 100%
