Root ZTE Zmax Pro Official Root Discussion

Odin is for Samsung devices only. I just hope you're using that as a generic term for flashing utility. The only tool I could think of that might work on the ZTE Zmax Pro would be the same one used for the Axon 7. Do you have the encryption keys used to sign the zips? If so please share them and I can put it in the original post for everyone to see.
Someone said before the partitions are the same between the axon 7 and the zmax pro.. is it safe to say we can try to backup one partition at a time as instructed for the tool.. then if that works, try flashing just Messi recovery? Of course if that was to work, do we lose the ability to beta test nougat?

Is there not an adb sideload mode for flashing OTAs for this device? [adb sideload mode happens when the device is in the stock recovery].

I ask simply because I don't know...
Yea there's an option in stock recovery to ADB side load, I used it to flash the b12 update

Still waiting on ZTE to tell me if I got accepted or not. Hope fastboot really is enabled in their development builds. @messi2050 I really hope out of everyone that you get it so you can try to root it and test out that TWRP recovery.

It's a shame that this wont be a real answer to our problems though. The beta isn't going to last forever and there is no doubt going to be people who miss it or just don't get accepted either way. I think we need to continue working towards root, even if this beta build gives us access to it.

Perhaps someone could use wireshark or some other utility to sniff traffic while their device downloads the beta update? Maybe we can get a copy of it and upload here.

Just a bit of clarification and guidance for everyone:

1. The thread owner "sets" the topic for the thread--that's really the extent of "ownership"--kudos to @anubis2048 for starting this and summarizing things: something that I asked would be good to do several times to be done in the last, original thread

2. "Best Answer" is voted on by the membership...there's nothing set in stone as to what that constitutes and it is not set in stone (i.e., another post can certainly be voted as best answer); additionally, its possible that someone click the button without realizing it...

Aside from that: let me stress (yet again) to be polite, non-attacking, constructive and contribute to the thread; ask yourself before you hit "Post Reply": this is on-topic, polite, and contributing to the thread?

:)

Didn't want to spoil it.. but if you look up the pics of the axon 7 nougat beta it's highly likely that we not only get fastboot but an app called ZTE root that is a native root app from ZTE. They might include it for the ability to collect logs..

Wasn't really attacking anyone and sorry, I didn't know that users voted on it. I thought the OP chose the "Best Answer" and that there was no vote for it.

Oh, my post wasn't direct at (or near :p) you...just a general note and reminder to everyone...sorry if it came out that way--not intended at all :).

i believe it will be the same way as any other ota update , we should be able to take a copy of it before flashing.

This is a standard app on the ZTE phones that people beta test for them. The app does absolutely nothing in all honesty. I beta tested the original Zmax and that program was on the phone. I pulled the apk sent out to people and no one could figure it out.
