Hi all,

I tried to install android6.0-r1 64bit on following PC

AMD 8-core
RAM 32G
SSD 1TB
VirtualBox

Created a VM to test run Android.

Steps performed;
VM creating
Name and operating system
Name: android6.0-r1
Type: Linux
Version: Other Linux (64-bit)

Memory size 5120MB
Hard disk file type VDI (VirtualBox Disk Image)
Dynamically allocated

File location and size 16G

Video Memory: 32MB

Started Android on VM. After selecting Language it came to following screen (please see attached file)

I couldn't proceed further, no key having function. Mouse pointer didn't work on the screen because VM guest addition haven't been installed.

Advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Well your PC should be plenty enough.

There are no Guest Additions for Android, only has Windows, or BSD, or desktop Linux OS like Ubuntu AFAIK. However the mouse should work with Android as a guest OS though, but you have to click on the Android window and it should capture it and work.

Advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Check the networking options in Settings for the Android VM, try it as "Bridged Adapter" rather than the default "NAT".

Hi,

Thanks for your advice.

1) Mouse doesn't work on Android screen.
2) Bridged Adapter could only work if bridge-utils is installed on Android, the VM. Additionally /etc/network/interfaces on VM must be modified.

TAB key works occasionally
-> Skip setup WiFi

Now I come to following screen;

If you use another Android device, you can quickly copy your current setup to this VirtualBox
( ) Copy your Google Accounts, apps, and data from your other device (highlighted)
( ) No thanks

Now the TAB key is NOT working anymore. I expect selecting "No thanks" to proceed

I'm now searching for the key combination to work on Android screen for overcoming this difficulty.

So it looks like a lot of unsupported device issues. What actual build of Android are you trying to run VM? What's the source URL?
Because some of them can be hardware specific, like built for an Asus netbook rather than VirtualBox, and if you haven't got that particular hardware, some things just wont work, e.g. networking or sound or pointer. There are various pre-built VirtualBox disk images of Android, and with those should just be able to load them in VirtualBox no messing around.

Are you seeking to actually run Android, or just want to install and run APKs on your PC? If it's the latter, probably better off with something like Bluestacks IMO, which just installs on Windows.

Hi,

I download android-x86-6.0-r1.iso on;
http://www.android-x86.org/download

I just want to install it to run APKs on my PC running Ubuntu Linux as Host, not Windows

Google Search found following Android image for VirtualBox;

1) Android x86 VM images for VMware and VirtualBox - OSBoxes
https://www.osboxes.org/android-x86/

2) Android x86 4.4 r1 image for VirtualBox - OSBoxes
http://www.osboxes.org/android-x86-4-4-image-virtualbox/

3) Android x86 7.0 Nougat Image Available for VirtualBox and VMware
http://www.osboxes.org/android-x86-7-0-nougat-image-available-virtualbox/
etc.

Just found following article;
How to Install Android in VirtualBox
http://www.howtogeek.com/164570/how-to-install-android-in-virtualbox/

I'll try it later.

Previously I came across other version of Android something like Android R??? Unfortunately I couldn't recall exactly.

Hi all,

Host Ubuntu 16.04 64bit
VM android-x86_64-6.0-r2
Oracle VirtualBox

Also now I have android-x86_64-6.0-r2 installed on a VM.

But still there is a problem - the mouse pointer is invisible after the mouse working a while on the host. This is frustrating me.

The indicator is on showing the host mouse pointer is captured by the guest. But the mouse pointer is invisible on the guest. I have to reboot the guest to get it back.

I'm still working to figure out a solution.

Any advice?
