Help Quick Question About Moving To Verizon

OK, I understand that Verizon is CDMA and I understand that LTE is a different thing entirely.
From what I understand, you need a CDMA modem in your phone to use Verizon, but you also need a LTE modem for 4G LTE data.

My question is a strange one so let me just ask. Could I put my Verizon SIM into my Huawei Honor 8 and use my data over Verizon? I heard that I will not be able to place phone calls or text and I'm perfectly fine with that, but I'm just asking to make sure.

If I can't use my data without the CDMA modem I guess I will just have to return my Huawei to BestBuy and get a Verizon compatible phone.

Any answers to this question would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Unfortunately the Honor 8 is GSM only and Verizon will not activate it because it doesn't have any CDMA capabilities.

If you don't want a phone from Verizon there are a select few unlocked ones like Nexus, Pixel, Moto G4, and Moto Z that have CDMA and Verizon will activate.

Ah okay, so they refuse to activate it at all? I guess I need to return mine in a few days and grab another phone for like 355 dollars. Thanks

Do they actually refuse to activate it? Did you ask?

I know they won't support it - IE they won't help you much. And depending on who you get when you call them, or worse if you go to the store space - you might get different answers.

Reason VZ makes the statements - if you venture out to non LTE land you device won't work. no call no nothing. which also means no e911 and other features that are part of normal "service" per the taxes and fees you pay.

So they don't want you to do so unless you fully acknowledge they are not responsible.

that said - LTE modem should work fine and you should actually be able to place calls. Depending on the age of the cells near you your might not be able to place a call AND use the data line - as it would be either or. On the fully VOLTE enabled cells it might not matter.

If you know someone with a VZ sim card - you might could try theirs and see if it registers and will connect and place calls. you might get lucky.

I got my SIM this morning... They sent me a Micro SIM... What the hell? I plan on buying a new phone soon while I just use my G2, and they throw me an oddball like that lol

I will try my Verizon SIM in my T-Mobile LG G2.. I have like 3 G2's and only one is from Verizon... Problem is that the Verizon phone has a damaged digitizer and oh my god it is torture trying to use this phone... You know what isn't torture? My download speeds!

not guaranteeing it will work but in theory it might.

the CDMA legacy system is only there to pick up the outlying areas, older phones, and voice when VOLTE isn't available and LTE is wanting to use data. Or that's what they told me a few months ago.

Doesn't seem to work on my T-Mobile G2. It claims that there is no SIM inserted. I will try on my Nexus 4 with the LTE mod.

are you sure the device is UNLOCKED? some are locked in the software so they will only recognize sim cards of a certain flavor. IE my LG V20 being a VZ model - won't recognize a T-mobile sim. An unlocked nexus though recognizes and uses either card

All of my devices but one are unlocked. None will detect the Verizon SIM.
