Help I want to install update and unroot also. Problems...

Hello. Last year, I rooted my phone with TWRP and SuperSU but eventually realised that I could have lived without it. Today, the phone told me a system update was available. Having read somewhere that doing such an update would overwrite the root, I went ahead with it.

Bad move. After the update, I got the TWRP screen so I hit 'reboot'. After that, I got the invite to install the update again. I was in a cycle of TWRP/Update/TWRP/Update.

Thinking that having 'root' was the problem, I used SuperSU to 'Full Unroot' after which SuperSU uninstalled itself.

I still couldn't get the update to work and so did a cache wipe and factory reset. At some point around here (my memory's fuzzy) I could no longer get to the TWRP screen. Booting into recovery mode gave me the 'dead android – No Command' screen (although I can get past that by pressing power/volume – that gives me a list of options but not the familiar TWRP screen).

However, I've just reflashed TWRP (in read only mode). I'm now back in my original loop – the update has been downloaded and installation seems to go OK. I then get the TWRP screen which says 'Keep System Read Only?' to which I say Yes. I then get options: Install/Wipe/Backup/Restore/Mount/Settings/Advanced and Reboot. I choose Reboot as that seems the obvious choice but whether I reboot System or Bootloader, the phone AGAIN starts installing the update which is followed by the TWRP screen...

I need to get out of this cycle. Please – what can I do? Ideally, I'd like a 'stock' phone with no rooting or TWRP. Anyone who can help has my grateful thanks.

Hi Jfalls63 – I don't know if you recall, but it was you who helped me to get rooted last year. You've come good again so please accept my sincere thanks. I was so concerned with getting the new update to 'take' that I didn't think to install the original ROM. The tutorial in your link was fine until the very end – it omits to mention the all important command 'mfastboot reboot'!

After reverting to stock, I then installed the new update and all seems well. Thanks again.

One thing I suppose I should have done but didn't was to use the command 'mfastboot oem lock'. I'm not planning to 'root' again but I don't think having an unlocked bootloader is a problem...
