Help Problem with OTG connection

Hi,

I have a Lenovo P2a42, running Android 6.0.1. The phone is not rooted.

I tried to connect a PS3 controller with an OTG cable, but even after using sixaxis enabler no motion was detected. Then I ran a USB Host Diagnostic test, and the result is:

KERNEL

Claims support: Yes
Device detected: No

VERDICT

OS support: No
3rd party apps: No

Any hint on how (if possible) make things work? Thank you!

Does OTG work at all on the device (e.g. does a usb mouse work with it, or a flash drive)? As far as web searches go I think it should be supported, but that would confirm whether the problem was with connecting to the controller or with OTG in general.

As soon as I connect my Samsung tablet to the device, it automatically starts loading the pictures that are in it. So, I assume the OTG works. I'm trying to figure out whether the device (which I bought last week) is defective.

Thank you.

It would be a better test to connect a dumb device like a mouse or thumb drive rather than a smart device like a tablet.

I connected a thumb drive. I can read the files in it, but the diagnostic test still gives me:

KERNEL
Claims support: Yes
Device detected: No

VERDICT
OS support: No
3rd party apps: No

The ps3 controller is detected by sixaxis emulator, but its motion is not.

Thanks.

OK, so OTG works and your diagnostic test doesn't ;)

The fact that the sixaxis emulator detects the controller is new information - if you'd posted that earlier I would not have asked for the other tests. Unfortunately that moves us outside my knowledge: I don't have a PS3 controller so have no way of investigating this. Hope somebody who has reads this.

It sounds like OTG does function in that it can recognise and read files from a USB flash-drive. But for something fancy like a Sony PS3 controller, it very probably doesn't have the drivers for it. It's recognised an attached USB device, but it basically doesn't know what to do with it. And to add them, a custom kernel would have to be built probably.

I suspect things like USB mice and keyboards would work though, those are usually supported by OTG.
