Need Help Rooting MXQ Pro 4k

So I'm trying to root a MediaBox MXQ Pro 4k and have been failing spectacularly. I want to root it because the space in the box isn't enough for my needs and I want to mount a 128gb USB stick to it and have it integrated as a part of the internal storage so that I can download, install, and run apps on it. My plan is to leave it in there and never remove it so I can trick the box into thinking it has over 100gb of internal storage pretty much.

Thus far I have tried Kingroot with no success, and have tried to run ezroot off of a microSD card but have not been able to get to the ezroot recovery screen on account of the box having no power button to trick the box into it as per the guide at http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player...ols-au/544002-new-minix-u1-ez-root-zip-method so I'm kinda stuck there.

Is there any other way of rooting this box that I might be overlooking?

The box is running Android 5.1.1, build number LMY47V.20160512 and running kernel version 3.14.29

Frankly with these "MXQ", "MX", "OTT", and other unknown cheapo Android boxes, rooting can be good luck, you're on your own.

Also there's a very good chance of actually bricking the thing, while trying to obtain root, by irreparably damaging the firmware. Some of them can be so flaky as they are, due to poor quality, and any attempt at tampering, can often kill them completely.

Usually these $20-30 cheapo things have a minimum of internal storage, OK for running a few streaming and player apps, like Kodi, etc. but not intended as an app or gaming power house, i.e. they make for very poor Xbox One or PS4 substitutes IMO.

The 128GB SD, is fine for storing movies, music, etc. with it though.

That rooting procedure is for a Minix U1, and won't necessarily work for other devices.

I never intended to use it for gaming. The apps I want on there are more utility as well as a couple of social media apps (which can potentially take up more space than what I have available). I mainly want to do this as well as to he able to download music and video on it without having to transfer stuff from my PC to the box via USB. I would rather just download it directly through the box.

As I stated, attempting to root and modify these cheapo "MXQ" devices from unknown manufactures, is often looking at whatever blogs, YouTube videos, forums, etc. and good luck! There's no actual brand with these things, and "MXQ" can apply to several different Android boxes. It's not a well known device like say a Samsung Galaxy S5 phone, where there's might be plenty of proven reliable info available.

They're usually "fully loaded" with streaming stuff, like Exodus, etc., and not really intended to be used for much else. It should be able to download music, videos, etc. straight to the 128GB, but might depend on the particular apps you're using.
