[Recovery] Twrp v3 for Lg Aristo [metropc/t-mobile]

Thanks Odin89, My confusion has been that the white screen said Factory Reset, which is what I thought we don't want. I thought I was missing something or doing something wrong. If you look at the gqukyo/messi posts #128 - 130, last Friday at 5:52 PM, it's exactly the same confusion. I wasn't here the last few days to see it.

[EDIT: When I said that I tried it several times, I meant that I started over & re-flashed the recovery each time, not that I kept trying after the *1* time. Sheesh... I said both too much & too little in all those posts  ]

Now that I know, I'm about to DL the new build & try again :D

Wonderful :)

Where is it exactly I need to be extracting it to? And does it need to be downloaded and extracted on both device and pc?

Only need recovery on pc, but have to cd to or open cmd from that directory. Sounds like it could be bad internet, if using wifi or cell network you should check out an app called ADM (advanced download manager) it downloads anything by link and even splits dl thread to increase and ensure downloaded properly. Usually more useful for much larger images to ensure no corruption, but i can see it helping with any file. Once you have the zip put it on desktop then open command prompt from desktop and fastboot flash recovery recovery.img if your having problems with drivers iv always found it useful to boot a live ubuntu usb (or any linux distro) for any command line use, gets rid of the need for drivers and such :)

No, that's just how Android is now if you unlock the bootloader of any device. It's just a warning. Doesn't affect anything though I must admit it's annoying we have to press a button to continue booting faster. My 6P just boots through without requiring a button press or extra long wait.
Thanks again Odin that black screen looks like if I keep seeing I was gonna have a problem booting up down the road so like I said I came from lollypop with my HTC so I never seen it before

There seems to be an OTA update. I'm new to LG phones but how would we flash these? Wait for someone to make a twrp flashable version or is there a way to restore the original recovery w/o factory reset?

oh, forgot to mention, it says the update is for lv3 and I have a ph2n when try to let it flash the OTA itself. Not sure if that's the result of the custom recovery.

It will fail to update because you have a custom recovery, that and system folder has su in it. I havent checked out the update myself but i see it in my notifications :) if its a major one you can kdz back to stock take update (if kdz with update isnt available) and then reroot. If you do go through with the process report back here the changes! I will eventually do but would be awesome to know beforehand

Just a FYI about Flashfire & Aristo ;)
Flashfire does updates while maintaining root, but it only works on a few phone models. There was a T-Mob OTA today, so I DL'd FF* to see if it would work on the Aristo. Nope. On my last phone (LG K7), the app opened but wouldn't do the update. Today, with Aristo, it hung up on "Acquiring root access" & never opened. Oh well. Maybe the devs will expand to LGs someday.

edit:
* Flashfire v. 0.55.1

So I have bricked my phone and have tried everything to get out of it. I got the encryption unsuccessful screen. I can go into the bootloader for fastboot but it won't flash any images for recovery, stock nor twrp, I have tried multiple times and after trying to flash it comes back to the factory data reset page, I'm certain there isn't a workaround for this so looks like my aristo is done for, r.i.p.

Anyone kdz back and updated to the newest OTA then rooted again?

I thought about it but am worried that the OTA might block the root pathway to "protect" us. (There's probably a name for it, but I don't know enough.) Also don't know to know how likely it is to happen.

It would be nice to be rid of the nagging icon in notification bar tho.

Hey guys,
So I am having some issues installing TWRP. I flashed it like the instructions said, and it worked. Then, when I hold down the power button and volume down, then release power button for a second and hold it down again, it takes me to a screen where it's asking me to factory reset the device. I found out a way to get into recovery from the cmd prompt by typing "adb reboot recovery", I have no idea if it helps me get into TWRP. Im a newbie at this. Thanks for the help!

Messi,
When you are really good at something it can be hard to remember what you didn't know in the beginning. There are several posts by some of us who got confused because the white screen says "Factory reset". Well, the screen is white, and there is a box to answer 'Yes', but we don't want to do a Factory reset. I kept thinking I did something wrong to end up at Factory Reset instead of the correct white screen that would lead to TWRP.

Plz consider updating the instructions to say something like "... the white Factory Reset screen", or "...the white prompt screen that says Factory Reset" :)

Well I had a similar issue where i had an encryption unsuccessful boot issue where i kept getting the error and a prompt to reset my phone it would take me to twrp and attempt to wipe it. Only to be met with the same error over and over. Fixed this by installing LG BRIDGE and restoring my system via error recovery in firmware update mode (power up while inserting usb cable) Now i cannot get twrp to reflash back on as a permanent recovery. It keeps reverting back to stock...this is unacceptable lol. Does anyone have a firmware from before this most recent update. I think it is blocking TWRP from being flashed...either that or im doing something incorrectly. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...
.
.
Now on a separate note providing I can get twrp back. Does anyone know of any one being able to find a 6.xx instead of nougat for reasons of xposed compatabity? Whether its an official port or a CM/LinOS 13?

Got root! Got hung up a bit after wiping data; twrp recovery splash screen would appear and was quickly followed by scrolling text and phone would eventually boot. Pulled battery and tried again, would get halo with the word 'erasing' in it and then it would boot. This happened a couple of times, flashed recovery.img a few times. Finally held volume up button at lg logo and twrp menu finally loaded; wiped again and used back key to get back to twrp menu then installed both zips.
Use the back key in twrp to navigate back twrp menu and everything will be fine.
Thanks to you Messi !!!

just tried a KDZ and it said my phone didn't support the refurbished option. Couldn't do anything to the phone so I just removed battery and tried to power up. Goes straight to twrp and I figured I'd lost boot or something so I just restored a nandroid I had but that didn't work. I can only boo to fastboot and twrp right now. How do I get my phone working again? I figured I can the KDZ again and try another option but it no longer detects my phone. I'm guessing it has to be booted up into the OS for it to work?

FYI I rooted today. I had taken the OTA update a few days ago. The rooting process still worked fine.

Anyone know what I can do in my situation?

Tried to use the LG Flash tool but it keeps failing about not being able to contact server... can't use LGUP since the phone doesn't even boot into the OS...

I am a noob, but did you try the LG bridge drivers in the op to get your PC to detect your phone again?

I'm interested to know how you fix your phone because I will likely someday also want to KDZ back to stock.

Dang, you're right, the Bridge software worked... Lol Not sure why I didn't think of doing that. Lol. Thanks for the reminder!
