Help Phone screen locks randomly and changes background

So yesterday, 3/29/2017, at around 4pm CST I came home after work and my phone, an Alcatel OneTouch Elevate (Virgin Mobile), had died so like normal I plugged it in and turned it on. After it charged completely I took it off the charger and began using it. This was around 5:30 to 6pm CST. Now previously, in about January or late December my SD card that i had had for some time quit reading in the phone so I had removed it to work on for some other time as it had nothing much but games and downloaded pictures. The phone was also up until yesterday almost out of internal space as I had no SD card. So after turning the phone on it began to update the Virgin Mobile My Account app. I usually would go into the apps and uninstall the update to allow what little space I had to be available. Right before it finished updating, my phone screen locked and changed my background to a default one. I figured the app was messing with my settings so I uninstalled the update like normal and changed my background back to what it had been. After this I connected the phone to my wife's laptop and transferred all downloads, screenshots, and the camera folder to an external harddrive. I had about 400 MB after this. It still keeps locking the screen and changing the background. Sometimes it will change the background after several times of the screen lock, sometimes it will do it randomly. I've made sure the Screenshots and Camera folders were present and in the correct location, the My Account app was updated, I've restarted my phone, since my phone has no SD card, I have very few apps, only two of which are third party the rest are Google or Alcatel prebuilt apps.

TL;DR
My phone keeps locking and changing the background with varying frequency. Any help?
I'll be willing of doing anything short of a hard reset. The phone was $30.00 some 8 months ago I'll just replace it if it can't be fixed.
