Google Play Store no longer accessible; Email app also suddenly dead

I'm running a 6-month-old HTC 10, unrooted. I've faithfully used Mail Droid Pro as my Email app, never having experienced a problem. Until tonight. About an hour ago when I went to check an Email I was expecting, I saw on the bottom of the screen this never before seen message:

License is expired or can't be found.

BUY CHECK LICENSE

Now, I bought the Pro version of this Email app, so there is no further license to have to "buy." Regardless, I pressed the "check license" button and absolutely nothing happened. So then I pressed the "buy" button, and the app redirects to what is supposed to be the Google Play Store app. However, all that comes up is a totally blank, white screen, with which I can do nothing. I can get back to my home screen, and when I go to my app drawer and try to access the Play store that way, the same thing happens--I get a totally blank, white screen. No matter what I do--phone reset, etc.--I cannot in any way get the Play Store to open or Mail Droid Pro to do anything.

Any thoughts?

My guess is that the Play Store access is the real problem. I expect that MailDroid Pro is trying to validate that it's a legitimate copy (i.e. not pirated) but can't because your device can't contact the Play Store.

This may be a transient problem. Otherwise I'd try clearing the caches of the Play Store and Google Play Services as a first step, and consider clearing data of both apps. I don't think a complete reset is needed, I'm pretty sure that Play access is the cause, it's just a question of where the problem is. It might be worth going into recovery and wiping the system cache (just that, not a full reset).

Before I attempted a factory reset, I tried several other things, from turning off WiFi, wiping out both cache & data in Google Play Store and Google Play Services. Finally and inexplicably, Google Play started downloading itself again, then I rebooted the phone and all was well.

Very weird. I wonder if the recent update to Nougat had something to do with this.

Don't do a factory reset yet. It's a problem with Google Play. I use Maildroid Pro and had same problem. You probably subscribed to the Spam plugin and that's the problem. Go into Maildroid settings and turn it off. Restart the phone and it should work again. Also check the other post about "Google store" not working. I had an easy fix, someone else didn't. Never mind. Sorry, but I tried to stop you from doing a reset and didn't read the last post. It was due to Nougat, according to Google.
