Root ZTE Zmax Pro Official Root Discussion

I may be pissing in the wind. But i tend to look at odd things that no one else likes to point out. Such as our mobo. Msm8952. I was curious. So i decided to search for another msm8952 device by ZTE. ZTE Nubia Z11 mini has the same board. I was curious how far they got. They have root and twrp. But they also apparently have fasttboot and an available bootloader.... Ok. Here is where it gets a little odd. Couldnt you use the firehose for the nubia for our devices? If not then could we extract the fastboot files from a nubia rom and somehow tempboot them onto our phones? I really dont know. I just keep getting ideas that are probably at the most just completely useless. But you never know.

No we can't as it's signed by zte for only the z11 mini
If not then could we extract the fastboot files from a nubia rom and somehow tempboot them onto our phones?
The problem is that there is almost no known way to flash images on zte devices except using fastboot which is not available on the zmax pro so basically no way to communicate with the device and push files to it..

Yes read the forum first, or at least explore the site before someone expresses a new idea. Theres no TWRP for ZTE MAX PRO, at the moment. If you follow the link you can see that.
How much exploring of the site have u done because messi has already made twrp for the zmax pro the problem is there is no way to flash it to get root but u would know that but it seem u haven't read very much

Is it possible to flash a different bootloader to our devices? I am seeing quite a few devices with our msm8952 board with unlockable bootloaders. The moto g4 for example. Could we flash the unlocked moto g4 bootloader somehow?

I wouldnt recommend it. Flashing a different bootloader to any device will surely kill your device. I mean no coming back,no boot screen, nothing. Paperweight.

Most new bootloaders are based off lkbootlader so it would and could only be replaced by another with a same signature

Mr. Bret_75, it seems as though you have root from these screen shots. Want you to download a superuser management app like supersu, and then try a root checker app. What I can infer from those screenshots is that you have root 100%

Also if you could go into settings the dev options and post a screen shot here. I would like to know what the option right above debbuging says..

I very much think that is factory root on this device. And I think it lies in data/data somewhere

Plus can you tell me what build you're on and what if any rooting apps/exploits you have tried with no success/little success

I'm still messing around with stitching firehoses and checking for various system exploits. Got nothing so far. Even with quadrooter I can't stall a kernel call long enough to get anything pushed, let alone a chmod. Just keep trying guys. Nothing is unhackable.
can you drop a link to what you're using please? I have a couple Z981 so I'd like to help tweaking with your method of attack. if ya dont mind sir.

Hello all, can't remember all the usernames from the past 4 months I've been following this group but to any who weren't here or don't remember, I've made 2 attempts to garner some sort of meaningful response from ZTE on their forum community.zteusa.com by way of contacting a support agent through ZTE's online support chat. Both times, as every support agent is supposed to, the people I spoke with were very understanding and assured me that a request would be handed to the forum staff to come and join the discussion in a thread I made there about root on our phone. Needless to say, nothing ever came of my attempts. I was also promised the second time around by the agent I talked to that she would contact me by email to let me know the result of the request she supposedly put in. I heard nothing from her again, not even a denial. The thread I had made got a decent amount of traffic and comments (for the weak user base that forum has) but fizzled out fairly quick. I checked back frequently for a while but became bored and didn't go back, until now. Wouldn't you know it, a moderator FINALLY replied to the thread. I'll let his comment speak for itself:

"As has been stated multiple times on this thread. This is a "carrier" device. There are rules, stipulations and most important of all a contract that is signed with the carrier. This is for all manufacturers. ZTE cannot change or add what is being asked for. Carriers will "network" unlock your device after a certain time(so it can be used with another carrier) but they are not going to provide an official root or bootloader unlock for your device.

Locking Thread...."

Obviously not even the person I was hoping to get attention from, just a regular old moderator that has absolutely zero affiliation with the company besides possibly a paycheck. And of course he chose to go along with what the one extremely (and really quite oddly) root opposed individual in the thread was spewing about carriers. At this point I am at a crossroads, I can start pestering ZTE again and perhaps try a more persistent approach, or I could stop what is likely a dead end. There's nothing else I can contribute to this group as I can't risk bricking my phone, can't donate and cannot write software or theorize anything more than the most basic root methods which we've already gone over months ago. Which way do I go?

P.S. I did report the mod's comment with a pretty good reason as to why it should be removed but I have absolutely no expectation for action to be taken. I would most likely have to make a new thread if you guys think I should continue to make a stand on the ZTE forum.

Have you tried asking MetroPCS for an official bootloader unlock?

It bothers me that I have nothing to contribute. I sort of take back what I said about my phone, if we get to a point where there is software that doesn't have a 50/50 chance of brick, I am more than willing to test it. I have a MetroPCS phone and here are all the specs in case manufacturing variations ever become involved (if there even are any, I don't think anyone has mentioned that before so I don't know):

Baseband version Z981B01

Kernel version 3.10.84-perf-ge786b5d-00547-g5cf9f38zte-kernel@Zdroid-SMT

Build number Z981V1.0.0B08

Hardware version u88A

Have you tried asking MetroPCS for an official bootloader unlock?

I actually did, it was hilarious. MetroPCS only has one number to call and I can't remember now, but I think their only two phone branches are a bills/phones/plans etc. line and a warranty/repairs sort of line. I spoke to a woman who had absolutely no knowledge of what rooting or a bootloader is, she had never heard of anything of the sort before and I could not find a way to explain it to her so that she could understand. She could not even understand whether or not I was calling because of something wrong with my phone or not. Long story short there is nowhere you can ask those sorts of questions. Metro does not have online support chat and I don't even think they have a support email.

This has already been tried numerous times before. We're not going to get anywhere asking for that from ZTE or metro. This is common knowledge.
