first screen has the clock and near bottom says "swipe screen to unlock" - easy enough but then i go to the screen to enter my pin (PIN required to protect my corporate email). after entering pin my phone is finally unlocked and I'm at the home screen.

my GS5 used to simply start at the screen to enter my PIN - more streamlined. Is there a way to remove the first lock screen on my GS8+ so i simply enter the PIN and am at the home screen?

You need to turn off your Always On Display. Then when you access your phone you'll be right at your lock screen. Settings>Lock Screen and Security>Always On Display (toggle to off).
thanks for the suggestion, but my always on display was already turned off - when i had it turned on i had 3 screens to go through to use my phone - that was insane

I don't know if this will help, I had similar problem.. drove me nuts.. uninstalled and disabled a bunch of stuff, no luck. went to settings and hit device maintenance, (the entry above Apps under the settings menu.) I hit device maintenance and was told I had un-needed files, recommended cleaning. I hit OK in desperation and the double lock disappeared after the cleaning process!!

Haven't seen this solution elsewhere, hope it helps more people!!
