Root Rooting the Hydro

I know, me either, and I can't get this other method to work because I have no idea how to open or run that POOT file.

but when I click the POOT all I get is "Windows can't open this file....Poot-debug(W100).apk....to open this file, Windows needs to know what program to use to open it."

poot has to be run on the phone, not on your computer, just like the rest of the files. Have you tried that? The apk extension is for android applications. There is a reason it's called an on-phone rooting method.

EDIT:
v2 not working for me at all after a dozen tries, what gives???

You should give the poot method a try. I guess there are issues rooting the normal way after the update.

All right, that was definitely a brain freeze, lol. I just plugged my phone into the computer and dragged/dropped POOT into the downloads folder. Doh! They should mention this in the guide for old idiots like me, lol.

Anyway, I got POOT to run and my phone is now rooted. Only issue is Superuser—for some reason I don't think it's the same one I downloaded last time (the icon was different). I went into the settings of this SU app and there's no option to update the binary. I've searched the store for the first one I got, but I don't see it anywhere now.

I'm totally new to this whole rooting thing so I'm not even sure what SU does. I just basically wanted to root the phone so I could use the reboot/restart app.

(I recommend release 15 http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1398011&d=1350123242 )

Instructions:
1) go to Settings, "System", "Developer Options" and make sure "USB Debugging" is checked
Connect phone to computer, and select "Media Transfer" on the phone

2) After extracting the archive of Bin4ary's rooting app to a folder on your PC, open that folder and Run the "RunMe" file and select "3> Other" in the on-screen prompts.

3) The phone will ask you to enter an encryption password... don't, just hit "restore my data" on the bottom of the screen on your phone.

4) Follow any further on-screen prompts, your phone will reboot, and you're Rooted

!!WARNING!! there is currently no working recovery, beware of the changes you make to your phone, modify at your own risk

(I did not write any of the above info, just gathered it from other posts and sites, perhaps this info could be added to the all things root area's rooting guide?)

Wow! Great job man!
You did a far better job at explaining that than I did! ;);

That stuff about poot was a riot dude. I went through all of that stuff myself as I too used poot on my hydro, & superuser. I have a question regarding overclocking the CPU & using other apps that boost RAM speed together. Is that safe or should I not run those two together, & if I can run the two together which apps would you recommend???

What you described is the Hydro Icon. Here is the correct root sub-forum for that device:
