What's your typing speed?

FWIW, back in 1961, a gentleman named Cortez Peters appeared on the game show, "I've Got A Secret" with the secret that he was the world's fastest typist. He could type 141 WPM...on a manual typewriter. On the show they had him compete with a rudimentary computer (really just an automatic typewriter that was programmed to type the same text Mr. Peters was given -- and he beat it.
The querty keyboard we designed to slow down your typing so those old manual keyboards wouldn't jam so much. Ever wonder why many of the most common letters are typed by your left hand?

And the Dvorak keyboard is more efficient, but I can't be bothered to re-lean my touch typing.

Unfortunately, I cannot try the typing test on my phone. When I go to the web site, the text I need to type scrolls beyond the top of my screen, so I cannot see it. It would not be a fair test of my typing abilities if I always have to scroll up the screen every few words. I normally type in landscape, so there is not a lot of room above the text entry line.

I thought it was a 5-minute test so I just kept on going and going and then I started wondering "Why is there no end to this?" to realize "aw, snaps, it ended when the paragraph ended. Oops" So here's a screenshot of my average. I still don't know how many tests I took. :/

I figured out why I wasn't seeing my score! Kept pressing ENTER after the test. Well, I finally took it again and made sure I didn't hit ENTER at the end. It's a habit. It's not 100% accuracy but I still somewhat got it.
How many kids nowadays know how to peck at a computer keyboard? These smartphones aren't really making anyone smart, you know.

I would love to see schools keep computers/laptops in school. Please don't bring in the tablets/Ipads (they're useless).

That's about the way I type. I actually took typing in high school though I learned nothing but a few neat tricks. Like turning off the selectric typewriter immediately after a few returns and shifts. It would preform those commands when it was powered up next. :)

Now my sister is a typist. She has made her way through life as a legal secretary. She types words... not letters. A decade or so ago she changed law firms and they required a typing test. She typed 140 some words a minute with zero errors. She explained the time by saying she slowed way down so the test would be error free.

How did I never see this thread, I just asked myself....

Oh! I was gone when it was posted!

As for typing speed, I don't know how this translates to typing speed, but when I was a data entry operator, a good speed was in the 8,000-12,000 keystrokes per minute range. I averaged 20,000. I remember one job I applied for, they had me take their test, and when I was done the woman came back and said, sorry it's taking so long but we think there might be something wrong with the results... So I sat there waiting, then she and her supervisor came back and said, no, there was nothing wrong, they just had never seen an applicant score 22,000 keystrokes....with no errors! :D And "When can you start?"
