T-Mobile phone on MetroPCS NOT unlocked

Hate to bump an old thread, but you don't need to unlock your T-Mobile device to use on MetroPCS. I purchased a T-Mobile locked Galaxy Core Prime and then switched my account to it from Metro and it works perfectly fine.

Perhaps specific phones are picky about it? I think it's rather a software issue on the phone rather than T-Mobile/Metro being asses about it because it's so inconsistent. Some phones require unlock, others don't. They use the same towers anyway, and you can even use T-Mobile APN's, so there is no reason that the phones wouldn't be able to go back and forth.

I have a locked LG V20 that i brought to Metro PCS from t-mobile. The phone works fine with it being locked but some functions will not work unless it is unlocked. I can make calls text and use data but i can not use the 3rd party billing to metro account it still sees my phone as a t-mobile account.

Ok,

So I'm planning on buying a Galaxy S6 Edge & Edge+ from my bud, both used and have clean IMEI/ESN(s). They are from T-Mobile, he bought them and paid them off. I guess you can say T-Mobile branded. They are NOT NOT NOT unlocked, so can I use them on MetroPCS as is or do I have to get them unlocked?
If you are on metro and have t-Mobile phone you call metro tel them you got unlock code but when you put simply card in phone it dose not ask for code. Then they will ask you for ime# and refers terms it what I did. So I took a T-Mobile Samsung note 5 and had metro register ime# on the note 5 phone. Then I put metro posted simple in note 5 and it's working they never ask me for the code. Hope that helps.

Tell them phone is unlocked also. And you have code they gave you. Like I said they never ask for code. I tried everything to get phone unlocked nothing worked so I did it that way and told them what I just said and it works now.

Did you have Hotspot working? Have you noticed any difference in data speeds?

I don't want to buy one off amazon and put my Sim in to find out I'm out of luck.

My brother has a note 5 from AT&T but a metro store owner sold and activated it for him.

Everything works fine hotspot works and data is fast. Just can't use third party billing.

Ok I had purchased my Galaxy Note 4 from T-Mobile, I never unlocked it and it was activated on MetroPCS without a problem.

I'm planning on buying the Galaxy Note 8 from T-Mobile, seems as some things have changed. I see it may have been just a few phones with that issue? Anyone bought a Galaxy S8 Plus from T-mobile and activated it on MetroPCS?
