Rooted Galaxy S7, now what?

I rooted my Galaxy S7 SM-G930F using Odin and CM-Auto-Root-herolte-heroltexx-smg930f.tar.md5.

After a couple of false starts I got the phone set up correctly and then started the rooting process which finally showed that the process was successful (according to the Odin log).

Now the phone restarts showing a screen Samsung Galaxy S7, Powered by Android followed by another screen showing Samsung.

To turn off the phone I must use Volume-down, Home and Power buttons. If I turn off the phone it automatically restarts.

I have read various posts on rooting but I fail to see how I progress from here.

Please advise a very inexperience but keen newbie.

You're in a bootloop.

Thanks for the offer but it now seems OK.

I don't know what I actually did but eventually I found that by using volume-up, Home add Power keys I could enter a new mode and was able to clear the system and restore the OS. IT now works OK (as far as I can see) and all apps have been reloaded.

I am now considering a custom rom but it still early days.

Any helpful hints?

Just curious as to just how you where trying to root your phone. When running Odin did you indeed see the green PASS message at the end of the process?

Here's a pretty straight forward rooting guide for your S7:
https://androidmtk.com/root-samsung-galaxy-s7-sm-g930f
If you were using the latest version of Odin note that might be part of the problem so try using an older version. Odin isn't necessarily a great backwards-compatible utility so depending on what you're working on try using a version recommended here:
http://www.droidviews.com/download-odin-tool-for-samsung-galaxy-devices-all-versions/
Also note that some people have stated problems using Odin when they also have the Samsung Kies utility installed. (Not surprising as both utilities are trying to do the same task and using the same background resources.) So make sure if Kies is an active process running in the background be sure to kill it before running Odin.
Once your S7 is rooted and if you're still thinking of flashing a custom ROM, you should install a custom Recovery. The stock Recovery applies only to the stock ROM.
https://twrp.me/devices/samsunggalaxys7.html
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TWRP
For your reference, most Samsung phones can be booted up into one of three states: the regular, typical start up running Android; Download Mode (from a cold boot simultaneously holding the Volume Down, the Home, and the Power buttons), used to upload ROMs; and Recovery Mode (from a cold boot simultaneously holding down the Volume Up, the Home, and the Power buttons), typically used for fundamental maintenance tasks. (Well, there is a fourth, quasi-startup, Safe Mode, but that doesn't apply to this instance of rooting your phone.) When you're going to be doing things like rooting and flashing ROMs you need to get used to booting up your phone into both Download and Recovery Modes.

Agreed with the post above flash Twrp in Odin, auto reboot unchecked. Unplug it when it says pass. Hold volume down and power, as soon as it starts to reboot switch to volume up, home and power and you will see Teamwin. Install SuperSU 2.82 select reboot and then if you want the twrp app installed leave the boxes checked, if not uncheck them then reboot.

If you have the TWRP app installed and don't want it then do this
adb shell
rm -r /data/data/me.twrp.twrpapp
rm -r /system/priv-app/twrpapp
in a rooted adb shell seems to delete it

The Green Window above log screen shows PASS

The phone restarts and shows 2 screens.

Screen 1: Samsung Galaxy S7 and below Android

Screen 2: Samsung (pulsing in brightness)

The phone will now only respond to a power-off using Vol-down + Home + Power. It can be restarted using the Power key, Vol-down + Home + Power (Download Mode) or Vol-up + Home + Power (Recovery Mode).

It consumes a lot of battery and gets much warmer than usual.

I'm still curious as to just which rooting method you initially attempted.
But at this point try booting up into your phone's Recovery and select the 'wipe cache partition' option. In this instance that's kind of a long-shot but see if your S7 boots up normally. If you're still only able to get into Download or Recovery Modes than it appears as if the Android OS is messed up and you need to re-flash the stock ROM. You can get the appropriate stock ROM from either sammobile or updato:
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s7/SM-G930F/
or
http://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model?exact=1&q=SM-G930F
At the bottom of the actual sammobile download page there are basic instructions on what steps to take to flash the ROM.

I have had one of those eureka moments, don't say this never happens to us olduns.

When using my original version of Odin I noticed that only the AP slot was accessible. The BL, CP and CSC slots were greyed out. I also noticed that above these 4 slots was a note saying that BL, AP, CP and Home-CSC must be used with new phones..

This meant that I was trying to reinstate my phone with the original ROM using only the AP file.

I deleted the Odin app and then reinstalled a slightly newer version. Using this newer version I could access all 4 slots so I tried again using BP, AP, CP and Home-CSC files and bingo it worked OK and I now have the phone in a very similar state to that before I managed to cock up the rooting.

Many thanks to you all for being so helpful and patient with me.
