I think I know the problem!

You either bought a phone that was reported lost or stolen... Or you need to call Metro and activate the phone. You may be required to purchase a new SIM card.

It's not as simple as just swapping your sim card anymore. I think Verizon or Sprint is the only one that offers that still... but you still have to go online and switch to the different device.

I believe Metro makes you wait a few days after the other person has deactivated the device from their account. It may be a month. You'd have to ask them or Google it I'm not sure. Maybe after September 30th? Since it showed that on the My Metro app.

Do you know if that someone is in good standing or do they owe money to the carrier, like they're in contract default? Because if it's the latter, that can get the phone blacklisted.
MetroPCS is a no-contract prepaid 3rd party carrier under T-Mobile. Similar to Crickett (ATT) and Boost/Virgin (Sprint). Only reporting a device lost or stolen will mark the IMEI as bad since you buy the device outright at the point of sale.

Thanks no bought it off d st but i guess i got played for my money
Well wait until after the 30th since your IMEI is still good.

Check in Apps and see if you have Device Unlock. I would go ahead and try to unlock the device if you can. This way you could always use another carrier if need be.

You could always just keep it on airplane mode and use it as a WiFi device. The 6-inch full HD screen is great for watching YouTube or Netflix...

I hope you didn't pay too much. These devices were $120 new and $30 under a "switch to Metro" promotion.
