Accessories How good is the wireless charging on the Note8?

All,

So this will be my first samsung device.

I read it has wireless charging.

Is this the newest /latest version of wireless charging? I have a launch day nexus 6 (google) and it was on the older spec of wireless charging.

Will the samsung note8 charging be much faster?

Is the official charging pod thingy for this device worth the purchase? Or are /will there be better 3rd party alternatives?

As mentioned above it is the same as the S 7 and the S8s so the wireless fast charge is decent but if you are in a hurry the fast charge of a plugged in connection will be faster. I use the wireless fast charger overnight on my s7 Edge but if I need a charge quick the fast charge black and USB connection is how to get as much in there as quickly as possible.

Hi,

Thanks for your input.

I'm new to samsung so I don't know how the s7 fared in the wireless charging world.

I'm used to wireless charging because I have an old school launch day nexus 6. I know there have been updates in wireless charging since then but i dont know the experience of wireless charging with the note series, hence my question.

Based on what ive read and have been told by others, the charging pad convertible thingy is quality build and worth the cost, so my initial concerns and questions are satisfied.

That said, I appreciate the response nonetheless. :)

I bought some of these and right now they're $17.99 shipped:

My only problem with it is that I'm photosensitive and that long LED bar blinds me at night. No problem: I covered up all but a little spot in the center with black electrical tape. Then I folded a yellow sticky over what was left. In a dark room, I have no problem seeing if it's charging (green) or charged (blue). For the price of one OEM charger I can have three of these... one at my bedside, one at the laptop and one at the PC. Done!

For my vehicle I got this:

Works great, and clips to the AC vent so that my phone stays cool while navigating on long trips!

I still have a couple of the old tlyt vu charges form the nexus 6 days.

https://www.amazon.com/TYLT-Wireles...3013&sr=1-1&keywords=tylt+vu+wireless+charger

indeed the convertible sammy one is expensive and ive seen them cheap on amazon. im weary about the warehouse deals though. i have one in the cart for 50 bux right now waiting to pull the trigger.

thanks for the suggestions chief. perhaps one day you can put up a photo of the car one in use.

If you're still using a Tylt Vu, I admire your taste in style but I have to advise you: those are very slow compared to today's fast wireless chargers. I haven't used my Tylts in years.

And don't worry about warehouse deals - it's items that were returned, probably never used... or the box is a little banged up but the contents are fine. I save a lot of money looking for those.

I still use the old school nexus 6 as a desktop clock, so the phone sits on the old tylt charger. Yeah its old school tech which is why i made this thread to begin with--to see if the wireless charging has advanced more over the years when the tyly was THE charger of the jet age! :p

Never planned to use these with the note8--apologies for that confusion.

OT:

Warehouse deals: yeah ive rolled the dice and picked up a few things off that but recently , I got burned. I picked up a vornado personal heater fan for the cold studio i work in and did the wearehouse. When i got it, it was in the shipping box with no factory box (it stated it would ship with it as "used-very good") no shipping supplies (bubble wrap or anything). Just tossed int he box. AND it didnt even work. It was obviously a return because the ship box was clearly re-taped over shipping labels.

So that put a bad taste in my mouth , but yeah over the years as a prime member, Ive had good success with warehouse deals.

/OT

For those of you with experience... Will it be ok to leave the Note 8 on the charging pad overnight? I'm old so I'm still very uncomfortable leaving things to charge (wired or not) beyond the battery being full.

TIA
DLM

In simple terms, battery technology today will stop charging once the battery controller send this data to the charger. Lithium battery technology has a controller that "Talks" to the charger. It will charge as needed and stop when needed.

Personally ive always left my phones, tablets, music gear, camera batteries, and other things on shore power (on charge) overnight. I use Anton Bauer batteries for cameras and they LIVE on the charger indefinitely until needed.

I'm sure there will be personal opinions as to this method. However again, in my decades experience with batteries and chargers from not just phones but more expensive gear (film and television gear) ive not ever had any issues with overnight or over the weekend charges. Or over the month charges! ;-)

Thanks. I guess as a follow up, will any of the cases (Samsung or third party) work with the wireless charger?

I'm not usually a case fan but I do like to use one when I travel.

unless they explicitly say no, you have a lot of choices on using a case with the samsung charger.

my daily driver case will be the alcantara case. that case will work on the fast sammy charger.

as a followup myself, i like the convertible sammy charger so much i bought two.. one at the bedside and one at the deck at my place. it really is a fast charger, much more so over the old school TYLT Vu charger i am used to with the old school nexus 6..

I am using the Fast Charge Wireless Charging Stand by Samsung itself for my Note 8. And it is working absolutely well. It is a superfast charger charging my phone at approximately 1.4 times more speed than a traditional wire charger.
Same here. I bought it originally for my Note 7 at Target when they had them on sale for $25.00 (bought 2!) and have used them for my S7 and now for my Note8. They work just fine and the blue/green light in front is not super bright. But you can always cover it up if it bugs you.
