So I'm giving my new note 4 to my son. I just got the note 8. I have him all set up. Phone has a new number and new email address. Yes it's on my Sprint account but different phone number. I put his mom's and my number and info into his contacts. All good. BUT...... I just opened up an email from my wife and the address is the address I put in my son's phone. All the emails I have from her changed her name to the one I put into my son's contacts. Now instead of saying her name it says 'mommy'. He just turned 10 by the way. I went into the settings, sync and such but I see nothing. Any ideas? Oh, I just checked and now I have 2 contact s of my wife in my phones contacts???? Wtf? And yes the email is a Gmail address.

This probably happened because you used the same account for both your son's and your phone. Thus sync would have changed the contact names in your phone to the ones on your son's since it's the latest change to your contacts. Simple solution would be to change the contact names again and use a different account for your son's phone.

Something is syncing wrong and I can't find it. Can't do another account as he is on my family plan through sprint.
He isn't isn't using any email address affiliated with me. Only two things that are affiliated are my wife and he is a second phone on my Sprint account.

He didn't mean a second account for the phone account. He means you need to set up a secondary Gmail account for only his phone. If you used yours then that is why the name changed on your new phone. Your contacts are synced with your Gmail account.
Actually I just re-read your first post. So you set up a new Gmail account for him? If so was yours removed from the phone?

Yes that's what I meant. Also maybe the sprint(or Gmail) account syncs contacts too and that's why this could be happening, in that case you could simply turn off syncing contacts

Yes he has a separate email account that has nothing to do with me. My email address was never and isn't in his new phone except as a contact. That's it.
BUT in MY phone I added his email/gmail account so I can help maintain and keep an eye on it. Could that be it?

Probably. To check, you could add a new contact/change a contact in his phone, sync your phone manually and then see if there is a change in your contacts.

I'm afraid that just unsync and sync again won't do due to it'll pick up where it left off..you never mentioned if you did a master format..I strongly advise that..you know this phones we call ''smart'' isn't for nothing..they are very sage in ways we don't even know about and beyond..even sometimes with a format still attached to the account or it will find a link somewhere, some how..and that's just the only thing it needs to find it's way back to it's HOME(that's the only resemblance machines have with humans..the concept of ''home'')..has happened to me..

Let me know.
