Im new to this forum page, so I apologize if I'm putting this in the wrong spot.

Anyway,

For about 2 months now my Nexus been having the oddest issue with the LCD. At random moments the screen turns black with a green line on top of the screen. Seconds later, more green spots start appearing. Or instead of going all black/green it goes all white. My solution is to hit the phone on a solid surface and it returns back to normal.

Has anyone had this issue, is it possible to fix without buying a new LCD replacement?

Welcome to our AndroidForums, @danzam123 :).

Hmm, that kind of sounds like a hardware issue to me, unfortunately :(

Either a loose connection (hence the whacking it temporarily fixing it) or a failing chip/component...

I've got a Nexus 6P (guessing that's what you've got, too?) but have not had an issue like this--I keep mine in a black Google folio case at all times, so I don't think these guys are that susceptible to overheating from normal use (mine gets pretty warm if I watch videos for an extended period of time, but no screen failures from that).

I tend to agree it sounds like a hardware issue. If it were software, your clever fix of giving it a good spanking wouldn't readily apply. If some physical connector (most likely a ribbon cable between the display and motherboard) just needs to be re-seated, or a loose or failing solder joint is the source of the problem, a repair could be do-able but looking through a tear-down on iFixit it won't be a quick fix kind of project:

I agree with my esteemed colleagues - you've got a hardware problem, and that's unfortunately not something that's possible to further assist with over the Internet. My suggestion would be to hand it off to a reputable mobile repair shop to have them check it out.

Definitely agree with what they have said. How often does it occur? Only when you are using it for extended periods or is it random? Definitely need to have someone open her up and take a look.
