Stock Email app is DEATHLY slow

In an attempt to make things easier for myself (and to maximize my ability to work with Bixby), I dumped Chomp SMS in favor of the stock Samsung Messages app. I'm perfectly happy with it. It doesn't have a dark theme, but I got around that by using a solid black image as my background.

    But...

I cut over to the stock email app and it's on my last nerve. I have three email accounts. Admittedly, it took awhile for it to load my (probably) millions of emails... but now that we're all caught up, it takes forever to do anything! If I select an email to delete, it may take 10 seconds or more to actually do it. Which is an eternity in email time... heck, just changing folders takes five seconds or more. Add all that up and I could do nothing but move and delete emails all day.

This, with 6 GB of RAM? And only two other apps open?

It is evidently freezing up the whole phone, too, as twice today I was in the middle of something and the phone just froze. I couldn't do a thing with it for upwards of a minute. Then it was back to normal (except for the super slow email app). I'm starting to wonder if there's a flaw in the eMMC memory module like in the Note 4...

So are any of you experiencing this?

Hmm, not sure what to tell you there. I use stock email app for my company exchange email, and it seems to work great for me. That's the only account I have on there though, as I use the gmail app for my personal emails.

Regarding the stock message app, that just depends on which Samsung theme you're using. I'm using Deep Darkness Metallic, and it makes my message app black with dark grey highlights and blue text.

Well, there's another issue with the stock Email app and, as far as I'm concerned, it's a fatal flaw.

Every email you get is text only. If you want to see the images, you have to tap "Show Images" at the top of the email. There is no option to show images for all emails. Guess what email app I'M not using? Back to Outlook...

You should have the option. Open Email, tap the hamburger menu on top left corner, tap the sprocket on the top right, on the top under "accounts" tap on your individual accounts, then you should see this:

You'll probably have to do that for each account.

Hi Chief, did you get this resolved? I'm living with this issue and it's driving me nuts. I have an exchange server mail account and a pop 3 account on the stock app. It is absolutely horrible.

I have 4 email accounts and they are all working fine as far as speed of sending/receiving. I'm wondering if something is holding you back. I have 2 PoP accounts and 2 Exchange server mail accounts. The ONLY issue that I have with the stock email so far is that it doesn't remove the emails from my phone when I open them up on my laptop/desktop. My SGN3 used to do that just fine, now I am having to go through them all again on my phone even if I have seen them on my laptop/desktop first. So far, no other issues.

Darlaredbridge, have you tried changing your port settings? I'm using 110 and 587. What about trying to deselect "Authentication required before sending emails"?

    Duckster,

I was using the stock email app. I am currently using Outlook. Anyway, on the stock app, when I would read a mail on my PC/Laptop/Tablet.... as soon as the app on the phone would refresh, the emails would show as read, moved or whatever I had done with them. One difference might be that all the accounts that I use (I have 7 for various reasons) are either gmail or imap accounts none of them are set up as PoP accounts.

    Just an idea...

Try AquaMail. IMHO it's the fastest email app out there. If you have more than two email accounts, you'll need the "Pro" version, but well worth the money. I get gmail & hotmail much faster than the stock app.:p

    Grunt,

Thanks for that memory jog. I bought the Pro version of Aquamail several years ago and really liked it. Then something bigger, better, faster and with something new came along. I have been all over the board with email apps. I, until this morning, used Outlook, but broke out Aquamail again this morning. Looks like it has been keeping up with the Joneses. One thing I has that I really like is the tag showing what account the mail came in through on the common inbox. That is particularly handy.

Thanks BRG. I started another thread in support about this. It worked on the Note 3 but not on the 8. I have had 3 note 3's and they have all deleted the emails after I opened them on my desktop. I did try IMAP but had no luck. I'm thinking that the Samsung techs are right and that there may be something wrong with my stock app on the 8.

Just read your reply and I have an idea. All of my accounts have, in the PC client software, an option to remove from the server when retrieved to the PC. That may be something to check. This is usually a good practice for things that reside on your the isp's server, but maybe not so good an idea if on a corporate server. Once removed from the server, they would appear as deleted to your phone and therefore not show up.

Yeah, tried that but it didn't work either. That is how I normally have it setup.
