Recieving low res MMS

I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction here.

My issue is that when someone sends me an MMS with a photo, the resolution is reduced to a fraction of what it was when sent. However, I can send images via MMS at full resolution.

As an experiment, I sent my wife a 940KB screenshot. She has an unrooted Galaxy S5. I had her send it back to me and when I got it, it was at 27KB. I had her email me that same image and it was unaltered at 940KB. We are both with Verizon on the same account. I use an old version of GoSMS because I love it and everything else I've tried sucks. I have the MMS size limit set to 5MB.

The stock messaging app shows the same symptom even though I have the MMS limit set to the max of 300KB. I'm getting less than 10% of that. I've tried disabling and even uninstalling either app but no change.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Thank you.

If you're both on Verizon, then it sounds Verizon's MMS system that's reducing the images. And the only real solution to that, is to find another way to send images, like using WhatsApp or something.

MMS is really a legacy thing anyway, devised in the early 90s, back when phones didn't have much storage capacity, and carriers didn't have much bandwidth. And it hasn't kept up with the times.

Hello mikedt... Thank you for your reply.

It's a crazy thing. I can send a photo to anyone, even myself, and it arrives unaltered. They send the same image back to me and it goes from say 300mb to 180kb. Doesn't seem to matter who their carrier is. Happens between my phone and any of the others on our Verizon plan. They don't have this problem, only me. However, mine is the only one thats rooted. It's extremely frustrating when friends send me an image with text and it's completely unreadable.

I was hoping that it's a setting buried somewhere that I'm missing. Any thoughts?
